Who is going to the playoffs in Division 5?

Folks,
First looking for a confirmation on how playoff selection and seeding takes place.

I think, first you have to be "playoff eligible" by the standards established by the CIF Southern Section, although under unique circumstances, if a full set of 16 teams did not meet the eligibility requirements in your respective division, they would open it up to all remaining teams that applied for a playoff "exception" or whatever they call it, but those teams would be selected last and only if there were any available slots.

1st place teams get selected first, 2nd place teams get selected after all first place teams have been selected, followed by third place teams in eligible slots of leagues with enough teams to get a playoff eligible third place team.

Once all 16 slots have been filled by the established eligibility prioritizing, then teams are seeded by the selection committee using multiple factors, that would allow a 2nd or 3rd place team to possibly get seeded ahead of a first place team. That is the way I understand it.

Now to who gets to the playoffs. I will use the calpreps.com rating system as my method of team selection.
1) Culver City (5-0).
I could have sworn I saw the ratings bounce back and forth today between CC & Glendora but my last look saw CC as #1 in D-5 for calpreps.com rankings. The Centaurs are not necessarily a lock to finish first in their Ocean League as they must face Div 3 Lawndale who has a slightly higher power ranking than the Centaurs. Worst case, the Centaurs finish 2cnd, going 9-1 overall. Anything else would be a shocking development. They will be playoff eligible and easily make the playoffs unless there are 16 first place teams in the Division. If they win against Lawndale, they will finish 10-0 and likely get the top seed or 2cnd seed, no worse than 4th seed. So a win against Lawndale is essential for CC to get the best playoff seeding possible.

2) Glendora (5-0).
Only Ayala (5-0) in the Palomares League looks strong enough to challenge the Tartans for first place, although Bonita(5-0) might want to argue otherwise. But the rankings favor Glendora and they should arrive in the playoffs as a first place team with a high seeding.

3) Oxnard(4-1) Pacifica (5-0) could present a challenge to first place in the Pacific View League for Oxnard but Oxnard is favored to take first place, at least by the current power rankings in calpreps.com. Even if Oxnard falters against Pacifica, they will fall no lower than 2nd in league and still be playoff eligible.

More to follow, if I get a chance.

Simple contest. You pick the winner of each high school game with the point spread included. The poster who picks the most games correctly wins the contest.
______________________________________________________________________________

Example: Norco is playing Centennial. Centennial is favored by 17 1/2 points. The line will look this way:

Centennial -17 1/2 Norco

If you choose Centennial. They must win by 18 points for you to win.
If you choose Norco. They must keep the game within 17 points for you to win.

Friday night, Centennial beats Norco 34-21. Centennial wins the game by 13 points therefore those that took Centennial get a loss in our contest; those that took Norco get a win.

The poster with the most wins is our Victor.
______________________________________________________________________________

What do you win? STARS. Since there is no money involved, we play for STARS! The poster with the most correct picks, wins that week's STAR (Not an easy thing to do).

The poster with the most STARS at the end of the season becomes our CHAMPION.

When Will So Cal Fans Wake Up to the Massive Cheating by MD and SJB

I watch with interest how Mater Dei and St. John Bosco continue to play fast and loose with the transfer rules. I guess they finally realized the only way they would ever beat De La Salle in the State Open Games was to blatantly cheat and bring in numerous transfers from any high school year that a transfer might be in.

Even if MD blasts DLS in this years state game, as far as I am concerned, Bruce Rollison is still a legitimate 0-4 against DLS. Pretty shameful the way these two teams are running their programs.

Week 7 Point Spread Results...The Drama is Building!

OfficerDick is our STAR winner this week...Going a whopping 27-6...The last time I remember a 27-6 record, I was looking at the back of Steve Carlton's baseball card...More importantly, it is his third STAR of the season...Which means he cuts doctrk's lead to just one STAR...With three weeks to go, we have a race.
_______________________________________________________________________________

Week 7
saw the favorites go 30-3 straight up...On the season favorites are 207-50 straight up.

When the point spreads were included 12 games flipped to the dogs ...That means the Favorites topped the Dogs this week 18-15...On the season Favorites expanded their lead over the dogs to 138-115-4

***La Sierra vs. Jurupa Valley was scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed, so it is dropped.

Carlsbad Lancers special teams play key role in win over Oceanside Pirates

By David A. Willauer-John Caroll Field-Oceanside High School-Oceanside, CA-10-11-19: In a key Avocado League battle the Lancers of Carlsbad at 6-1 overall and 4-0 in league play are known for their quick running game along with lots of traditioned quarterbacks known for their passing and scrambling, as in former Carlsbad and San Diego State alum Christian Chapman, who is currently assisting at his high school alma mater, but today the special teams which played the key role of the contest after a 14-14 tie, the Lancers took a 16-14 halftime lead on a safety as Oceanside's punter was tackled in the end zone.

In the fourth quarter Wyatt Hawkins kicked field goals of 45 and 32 yards took a 22-14 lead. The Pirates at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference scored their last touchdown as Jakub Harris 11 completions out of 23 attempts for 139 yards threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Cameron Beacham for 83 yards to make the final score 22-20 in favor of the Carlsbad Lancers.

Thadd McNeil Carlsbad Football Coach: "You can't make mistakes when your aren't working on your blocking assignments today as I'll address that in practice on Monday our defense did well on tackling Kavika Tua,Oceanside lead tailback as we did a good job at containing him." "I give Oceanside a lot of credit for battling well in this Avocado League."

Carlsbad performers qb Aiden Sayan 9 completions out of 21 attempts for 112 yards threw 2 touchdown passes of 47 to Noah Vella 7 receptions for 157 yards (1 touchdown run for 5 yards). DJ Young 17 carries for 74 yards.

LA City finishes Narbonne academic investigation: post season ban looming?

Per LA Times:

A Los Angeles Unified School District investigation into an allegation of academic misconduct involving a Harbor City Narbonne football player confirmed that a player on last year’s team was ineligible after Oct. 4 because he did not have a grade-point average above 2.0, according to Michael Romero, superintendent for Local District South.

Narbonne reported to the City Section on Tuesday that there was a violation of LAUSD academic policy involving the player last season. Now it will be up to City Section Commissioner Vicky Lagos to apply CIF rules and determine whether any sanctions are warranted against this year’s team, such as a playoff ban.

Lagos said she will be “reviewing and processing” and consulting with CIF legal staff. One of the first priorities would be to see whether the player was in a game after Oct. 4. The City Section has banned teams from the playoffs in the past when ineligible players were discovered the previous year.

Narbonne is the five-time defending City Section Open Division champion and heavily favored to win a sixth time. The Gauchos are 6-1 overall and won their Marine League opener last week against San Pedro 53-0. But the fact the Gauchos used an ineligible player places them in serious jeopardy of sanctions by the City Section.

Romero said in March of this year that a teacher reported to the administration his concern regarding the grades of a football player. “We did determine he was ineligible to participate after Oct. 4,” Romero said.

The teacher reported that the player’s grades in the computer system did not reflect his true grades, according to Peter Hastings, administrator for operations in Local District South.

“We uncovered documents that there were irregularities,” Romero said. “His eligibility was compromised due to failure to meeting the 2.0 grade-point average.”

The LAUSD confirmed in May that it was investigating an allegation of academic misconduct at Narbonne. Two staff members were reassigned, and the entire football team was brought into the school library to be interviewed. Football coach Manuel Douglas was reassigned at the end of May for an allegation of “misconduct involving interference with an on-going District investigation,” according to a lawsuit Douglas filed last month against LAUSD.

While the investigation into academic misconduct was completed by the local district office, the inspector general’s office of the LAUSD has since launched an ongoing investigation that led to Douglas’ lawsuit.

Douglas’ frustration grew to a breaking point in August when he flew on a private charter jet paid for by a Narbonne booster to see the team play in Clovis in its season opener and put on his Twitter avatar, “Head coach of team outcast.” He is not expected to return to coach this season. He continues to be paid while assigned to his home.

A letter was sent to Narbonne parents Tuesday from principal Sara Aiello that said:

“Today Narbonne High School submitted a letter to the CIF reporting the findings of its investigation of academic misconduct. At this time, we cannot provide further information due to student privacy issues, but our investigation has determined that a student athlete was made eligible to play football as a result of academic placement that failed to comply with LAUSD policy. LAUSD is in the process of taking corrective action as a result of these findings. CIF will make a determination based on the details of this report.”

Aiello also sent a letter to Lagos:

“The Los Angeles Unified School District has concluded its investigation of academic misconduct for Narbonne High School. The investigation has determined that a … football player was made eligible to play as a result of academic placement that failed to comply with LAUSD policy. The modifications to the student’s schedule resulted in an inaccurate recording of his academic marks, making him eligible to play when, in fact, he was not. [He] should have been deemed ineligible as of October 4, 2018.”

Whatever happens this season, the Gauchos’ reign could be nearing an end because the coaching staff put together by Douglas is unlikely to stick around when the season ends. The rest of the coaching staff has stayed together under interim coach Joe Aguirre and successfully kept the players focused on the field.

Week 7 Point Spreads

Final Four weeks!...Really...Already?!...Looks like I am in the group that must win a STAR in each of the next four weeks to grab a piece of that Championship to share with doctrk who currently leads with 4 STARs...OfficerDick and D5fan have more wiggle room, but still trail by two STARs...FrmrOlineguy and OPHS83 are sticking in there as well. Each has a STAR.
______________________________________________________________________________

Fontana beats Colton 24-20

This was a cavalcade of ugly prep football. Countless stupid penalties. Running backs running into each other, bad snaps, 15 yard punts, etc. Literally both teams tried to give it away. The best offense was often the other team's offense. Such a sad state of affairs watching two teams that were once marquee programs that drew huge crowds. It was awful.

Jackson Oksnee sparks Mission Hills Grizzlies to a 27-0 win over Oceanside Pirates in key game

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-Jack Ashby Field-Mission Hills High School-San Marcos, CA-10-4-19

The Mission Hills Grizzlies known for their football tradition along with producing good players who are currently playing in college and the only Grizzly in the NFL with Fred Warner known for his defensive skills for the San Francisco, currently ride a 2 game winning streak behind 2 field goals of 52 and 30 yards along with QB Jackson Oksnee's 2 touchdown passes of 77 to Cameron Woolsey (receptions 4 receptions for 95 yards, rushing 15 carries for 44 yards) and 22 yards to Skai Donnell, 2 and a touchdown run of 1 yard as they defeated the Oceanside Pirates by a 28-0 score.

Chris Hauser: "Our defense commucated well when we keyed in on Oceanside's running back Kavika Tua as he is one of the outstanding backs in San Diego County." "Tonight's game was in our favor after being on the road for 2 weeks it felt good coming back at our home field, as this is our sixth game this season and our second home game which is a treat with our crowd and community support, I'm proud of our squad as we played well tonight." "Cameron Woolsley, my tailback, is a kid that we use multiple ways in different offensive positions which is uncommon for us but to give him the ball for the passing game and tonight we decided to give him some touches as he scored those 2 long key touchdowns which paid off." "QB Jackson Oksnee was under a lot of pressure in tonight's game which is big for us but he managed the game and made key throws that we needed."

For the Pirates of Oceanside Kavika Tua led with 69 yards on 13 carries, qb Jakob Harris 7 completions out of 20 attempts for 111 yards and 1 interception.

Davd Rodriguez Oceanside Football Coach: "Every loss is difficult for us as it lands on my shoulders tonight wasn't our night but we have to move on get them ready in practice as we have another heavy hitter at Carlsbad." "Kavika Tua my running has battled hard in practice and on the gridiron he always gives our squad 100% but we didn't do that tonight."

Mission Hills will host Torrey Pines next Friday while Oceanside will travel to face the Red Hot Lancers of Carlsbad.
