NCAA is making needed changes to 2020 recruiting schedule

Per Dan McDonald of Rivals.com:

The big news that came out last week is that there will be a second recruiting period in April after having only one in 2019. The only time college coaches could be out evaluating prospects with their travel teams in 2019 were the last weekend of April and the one four-day period in July. That wasn’t enough. So, the NCAA decided to add another one in 2020.

Hopefully, another weekend in July is the next step in this process.

Week 4 Point Spreads

Week 4 already...It seems football season takes forever to get here and is over in a snap...I hope you're enjoying this one.
______________________________________________________________________________

Simple contest. You pick the winner of each high school game with the point spread included. The poster who picks the most games correctly wins the contest.
______________________________________________________________________________

Example: Norco is playing Centennial. Centennial is favored by 17 1/2 points. The line will look this way:

Centennial -17 1/2 Norco

If you choose Centennial. They must win by 18 points for you to win.
If you choose Norco. They must keep the game within 17 points for you to win.

Friday night, Centennial beats Norco 34-21. Centennial wins the game by 13 points therefore those that took Centennial get a loss in our contest; those that took Norco get a win.

The poster with the most wins is our Victor.
______________________________________________________________________________

What do you win? STARS. Since there is no money involved, we play for STARS! The poster with the most correct picks, wins that week's STAR (Not an easy thing to do).

The poster with the most STARS at the end of the season becomes our CHAMPION.

Nor Cal Fall Showcase- Sunday Oct. 27 at Chabot College

NOR CAL FALL SHOWCASE

The 4th annual Nor Cal Fall Showcase will be held Sunday October, 27 at Chabot College in Hayward from 11 am to 5pm. The event is open to individual players and teams in all high school grades (classes of 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023).

A report on the event will be done by the Hoop Review scouting service that will be sent to college coaches and various internet sites.

Cost is $250 per team or $80 per individual. Everyone will play two games. To register go to hoopreview.net. For more information/application contact Gerry Freitas via email: gerryfreitas@hotmail.com

Some Interesting Games This Week

Vista Murrieta at Norco...Two of the better programs in the IE going head to head...The Cougars have scored 111 points in two games...The Broncos have given up just 18 in the same time frame...Who will get the better of whom?...Can Norco impose their offensive will against a highly touted defense?

Murrieta Valley at Roosevelt...What's going on at Roosevelt?...0-3 against a marginally difficult schedule, but past experience says they should have been more competitive vs. their opponents...The Mustangs dropped those three games by a 3-TD average...Murrieta Valley has started the season 2-0 winning handily two games that they should win...This match-up is a better gauge of where they are at this point in the season.

Temecula Valley at Norte Vista...Norte Vista is a well coached hard nosed bunch...This could be one of Coach Batdorf's better goups...Will the ground and pound, time consuming offense keep Coach Esposito's high flying Golden Bears on the sidelines and out of rhythm?...Has Temecula Valley taken the next step in becoming a serious threat in the Southwestern?...If so, this one may be a route...If not, look out for the Braves.

Citrus Valley at La Quinta...Back to Back shut outs gives evidence that Coach Bruich's Blackhawks may have finally turned the corner from middle of the pack to league title contender...But it is the Blackhawks of La Quinta that has me including this game in this post...How far of a slide has this program taken?...It makes me wonder if the ghost of Lock N Load is rolling uncomfortably through the torment that this season is turning into for his beloved La Quinta.

Week 3 Point Spread Results...A Third STAR Already!

We have never had a start to the season like this...doctrk's 22 wins edged out OfficerDick and TVGB9582 getting him this week's STAR...In just our fourth week doctrk has earned his third STAR...doctrk is starting to go where no poster has gone before...It is impressive.
_______________________________________________________________________________

Week 3
saw the favorites go 28-6 straight up...On the season favorites are 108-29 straight up.

When the point spreads were included a season high 12 games flipped to the dogs and 1 ended in a forfeit and was discarded (Rialto at Granite Hills)...That means the Favorites lost out to the Dogs finishing just 16-18...On the season Favorites continue to lead the dogs 75-59-3

Torrey Pines Falcons improve to 3-1 with win over previously undefeated San Pasqual Eagles

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-San Pasqual High School-Escondido, CA-9-13-19-After a 36-10 opening day win over Los Alamitos and a very tough 31-7 defeat at San Clemente, the Falcons of Torrey Pines ride a 2 game win streak with last week's 10-7 win over the Eagles of Olympian, tonight defeated the San Pasqual Eagles by a 24-14.

The Falcons took an early 10-0 lead on Mo Vanderwiel 37 yard field goal and qb Brayden Fowler Nicolosi's (8 completions out of 14 attempts for 133 yards) 12 yard pass to Logan Gutweiler (1 reception for 12 yards)

The Eagles answered back to a 14-10 lead as Trevor Jungman (Rushing 9 carries for 69 yards and passing 4 completions out of 13 attempts for 95 yards) connected on long touchdown passes of 44 yards to Mark Santer (2 receptions for 64 yards) along with a 23 yarder to Ethan Hoffman ( 1 reception for 23 yards)

The Falcons Cael Haelfrich scored 2 more touchdowns of 29 and 20 yards along with 178 yards rushing made the final score 24-14 in favor of Torrey Pines.

Ron Gladnick Head Football Coach of Torrey Pines: We're a young football team battling injuries and colds at the present time along with 11 players that weren't dressed for tonight's game, these are high caliber kids that want to play good football, but we battled hard with a lot of opportunities to move the ball on certain plays as our squad came through in the second half we made great defensive plays that we needed to, we started 17 underclassman tonight that improve each game for us to get better."

"QB Brayden Fowler Nicolosi only a sophomore ran and looked for a route that we had open did a good job on the primary." "Our defense did their duties at knocked the ball loose for the fumble that led to our 3rd score." "Cael Helfrich ran hard for us all year after 3 games he might have 400 total yards rushing as he is a bruising running back when you try to tackle him (Cael) your not the hitter he is the hitter."

Torrey Pines will host El Camino and for the Bear Award San Pasqual will be at Orange Glen.

Who was better?

Settle an argument between my two friends. They both were QBs of the same high school team, and I actually now wanna know which one is better. I’m gonna give a brief overview of both of them. Give me your honest answer. Im pretty biased towards 2012 because I played with him. 12’ had slightly better receivers, 14’ slightly better running backs. So we need some help, which one was better? I’m only providing their senior season stats for various reasons. 12’ has a slightly flashier highlight tape.

2012: 2nd team all conference

2014: Not all conference

Strengths of QBs:

2012: Arm strength, Athleticism

2014: Accuracy, Football IQ

Overview:

2012: Duel Threat QB

-2.5 year starter. He was on a bad team his sophomore year (3-7) and was OK at best, was jus flat out bad his junior year (3TDs,7INT, 600 yards-46% comp.) was benched for a couple games mid season. Team finished 6-4 missed playoffs.

-team ran a run oriented pistol scheme. Ran a decent amount of information though.

-his RBs had 212 carries

2012 Season stats: Captain (5-5)

Passing:

79/151-(52%)-1167yds-8TDs/14INTs-(116 QBR/59 Passer Rating) (0/2 two point conv.) (7.7 YPA)

Rushing:
114/290/2TDs/2 Fumb/ 2.5 YPC

(1 rush TD was 1 yard QB sneak.)

2014: (pocket passer)

-1 year starter (JV/Backup QB soph/junior year)
-played in pro style I formation offense (70/30 Run)
-his RBs had 345 carries

2014 season stats: Captain

88/141-(62%)-1059yds-6TDs/5INTs-(132 QBR/84 passer Rating)
(1/1 2 pt Conversions, it was a 2 pt throw to tie the game with 1:00 left.)(7.5 YPA)

Rushing:
23/-27/0TDs/0Fumbles

If you choose Norco. They must keep the game within 17 points for you to win.

Friday night, Centennial beats Norco 34-21. Centennial wins the game by 13 points therefore those that took Centennial get a loss in our contest; those that took Norco get a win.

Why Certain Schools Are Ruining HS Football

St. Thomas Aquinas; IMG; Bishop Gorman; Mater Dei; St. John Bosco; what do they hae in common. Their blatant recruiting is ruining hs football.

I think it started after Bruce Rollison got tired of losing 4 years in a row to DLS. Now we see players transferring after their freshmen, sophomore, and sometimes junior years. MD ands sJB have led that charge. For all the talk of DLS recruiting, if that were true, the star qb of Liberty HS in the Bay Area would be the starting qb of DLS.

Watching last nights DLS/STA game, the announcers were gushing about the 20+ D-1 athletes on STA. Do you think these players live in wealthy Ft. Lauderdale, where STA is located?

These top tier schools need to tone down the recruiting.
