Rob Ramos paces Escondido High in first round CIF win over Classical Academy

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-Chick Embry Field at Wilson Stadium-Escondido High School-Escondido, CA: After 9 straight losing seasons from 2010 to 2018 and 4 under current head football coach Jud Boardman, the football tradition is back!

The Cougars prowl once again and the offense proved themselves today on Chick Embry Field at Wilson Stadium. Quarterback Rob Ramo’s rushed for 50 yards scored 2 touchdowns of 3 and 2 yards each and passed for 76 yards to wide receiver Tajae Brooks (130 yards catching), Josue Flores 30 yards field goal. Pacing (6-4) Escondido High School to a 31-7 over their school rival Caimans of Classical Academy at 5-5.

Jud Bordman on the win over Classical Academy: “Tonight vs. Classical Academy our squad hadn’t turned the ball over 10 times in the last 2 games but our defense played well. “We did great at managing tonight’s game on both sides of the football.” “Rob Ramos is a good athlete as our 3 year starting quarterback, he makes good reads and did a good job at scrambling in the end zone along with the 76 yard throw to Tajae Brooks. The way how he executed the play and looked for him at the right time for the score. I give credit to our offensive line protecting our runners and passers throughout the game.”

” James Duncan is a good athlete and does well under pressure plus a good size at 6’5″ with a good arm.” “Coming up we have top seed Santana and they had a great season, they are coached well. We have to get healed up and do our homework to prepare for the Sultans.”

For the Caimans of Classical Academy quarterback James Duncan threw for 122 yards including a 15 yard strike to Max Brown. Luke Mizel led in rushing with 73 yards and 70 yards receiving.

This was Escondido’s first CIF First Round win since 2009 when Paul Gomes was the head football coach and they defeated Mira Mesa 47-21 score. That year in the quarter final round of the CIF Division Tournament we fell short to Eastlake 35-14.

This game is a part of the “2019 CIF SAN DIEGO SECTION FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS – DIVISION IV” tournament.

Reassigned Narbonne coach Manuel Douglas files lawsuit for $2M

By ERIC SONDHEIMER COLUMNIST

Narbonne football coach Manuel Douglas, reassigned from coaching and teaching since May, when the Los Angeles Unified School District launched an investigation into an allegation of academic misconduct at the school, has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court.

According to the complaint filed Monday against the LAUSD and three LAUSD individuals, Douglas is alleging the district has brought “false and unsubstantial” proceedings against him, destroying his reputation and causing him “severe emotional distress.”

He’s seeking $1 million in general damages and $1 million in compensatory damages along with attorney fees.

The filing adds the first on-the-record insight into what has become a five-month investigation by the LAUSD’s inspector general’s office.

The lawsuit alleges Douglas was removed May 30 for an allegation of “misconduct involving interference with an on-going District investigation.” On Aug. 19, he was given a second notice for reassignment regarding an investigation that the complaint says took place two years earlier. On Sept. 3, he was given a third notice of reassignment for an “allegation of misconduct that involves possible misuse of funds.” Douglas has used his own money for extra equipment, according to the lawsuit.

LAUSD Supt. Austin Buetner and Sal Randazzo and Donald McMillen of the inspector general’s office are named in the lawsuit.

The LAUSD said in a statement: “While we cannot comment on pending litigation, the Los Angeles Unified School District remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. We also have a duty to ensure serious allegations are investigated.”

Douglas guided Narbonne to five consecutive City Section upper division championships. He was a special education teacher until he was sent home at the end of May and has been spending days at home while being paid by the district during the investigation. The principal, athletic director and assistant principal in charge of athletics have all been replaced for the new school year.

Narbonne named Joe Aguirre the interim football coach.

League Championships On The Line

These games will determine their league's outright champion:

Baseline- Rancho Cucamonga at Upland
Ivy- Heritage at Rancho Verde
Mountain Valley- Moreno Valley at Vista Del Lago

Here are the scenarios behind these league's champion:

Inland Valley- North at Riverside Poly...If North wins they are league champs...If Poly wins then there is likely a tie between North, Poly, and Orange Vista

San Andreas- Eisenhower at Jurupa Hills...If Ike wins they are league champs...If Jurupa Hills wins then there is likely a tie between Eisenhower, Jurupa Hills, and San Gorgonio

Southwestern- Murrieta Valley at Vista Murrieta...If Murrieta Valley wins they are league champs...If Vista wins then Temecula Valley is league champs unless Temecula loses to Murrieta Mesa then Vista Murrieta is league champs.

Narbonne has crashed; little life left

Excerpts from LA Times:

Five-time defending City Section Open Division football champion Harbor City Narbonne learned Friday that it has been banned from this year’s playoffs as well as the 2020 playoffs and must vacate its 2018 City title because of rules violations.

Narbonne went from 9-0 to 0-9 because the City Section determined that multiple players on this year’s team were ineligible. They involved residency violations. There was a dispute late Friday between the administration and coaching staff about which players were ineligible. Coaches wanted to prevent those who were ineligible from playing against Banning but administrators refused to identify the players to the coaching staff.

There’s expected to be an exodus of Narbonne underclassmen, and supporters of schools around the Southland have already made inquiries, according to one Narbonne coach.

The final week of the season...Man, it goes by fast...OfficerDick has won at least a share of the Championship...doctrk has a chance to catch him...The rest of us are playing spoiler...Some of us, including yours truly, are trying to avoid the shame of going the whole season without a STAR...This is our last hope...Good Luck to All.
______________________________________________________________________________

Simple contest. You pick the winner of each high school game with the point spread included. The poster who picks the most games correctly wins the contest.
______________________________________________________________________________

Example: Norco is playing Centennial. Centennial is favored by 17 1/2 points. The line will look this way:

Centennial -17 1/2 Norco

If you choose Centennial. They must win by 18 points for you to win.
If you choose Norco. They must keep the game within 17 points for you to win.

Friday night, Centennial beats Norco 34-21. Centennial wins the game by 13 points therefore those that took Centennial get a loss in our contest; those that took Norco get a win.

The poster with the most wins is our Victor.
