Texas A&M has high hopes for Marco Jones, Dijon Lee Jr., and Noah Mikhail and they hope Husan Longstreet can help recruit them.

Comments from our Rivals Texas A&M staff:

Husan Longstreet has scheduled his visit for this weekend in order to help recruit some of the big names coming in to town. You can bet he'll be talking to offensive tackles a whole lot.

Marco Jones is listed by Rivals as a linebacker, but a lot of teams like him as a defensive end. More precisely, they see him developing into an edge rusher. He's got a frame similar to Rylan Kennedy, so you get the idea. I also think he's a good bit bigger than 215 already, so that would add to the idea he's going to grow into an end.

Jones has officials set to A&M, Texas and Michigan and that's it. Who leads is anyone's guess at this point, but those are the three teams to watch. A&M is being pretty picky on who it's going after at defensive end, so it's a safe bet Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie really like him.

One of the nation's elite corners, Dijon Lee Jr. will visit A&M, Washington, Georgia and Alabama. USC is also very much in the hunt, but he doesn't have to official to see them. If there's one player that tops the cornerback wish list who's still on the market, this may be the guy (they're not getting Devin Sanchez). My gut feeling is USC leads, but he's definitely open to other options.

4-star linebacker Noah Mikhail is definitely on A&M's wish list, and I think the Aggies lead for him at this point. The other competitors are USC and Oregon, but he's really had an outstanding relationship with the A&M coaching staff. He has already set his commitment date for June 30, after he takes his three officials, so he's not waiting around.

Some interesting updated recruiting thoughts from our Oregon Rivals staff on Akili Smith Jr., Jaden O'Neal, and Hayden Lowe.

- Akili Smith Jr revealed on Wednesday that he will participate in the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles later this year, a camp that features the nation's top high school passers and celebrates its 25th anniversary this summer.

Smith Jr., son of Oregon football legend Akili Smith, has been committed to the Ducks since July 2023. Rated by Rivals as the No. 7 pro-style quarterback and the No. 109 overall player in the nation, Smith Jr. is expected to showcase his talents among the best of his peers.

He will be joined at the Elite 11 Finals by other elite quarterback recruits, including Texas A&M commit Husan Longstreet and Nebraska commit TJ Lateef, among others. This event will provide Smith Jr. and his fellow attendees an opportunity to cement their status as top prospects in the country.

- Oregon is also set to have 2026 QB Jaden O’Neal later this summer at the Saturday Night Live event in Eugene. One of the top pure passers in the 2026 class, Jaden O'Neal has made significant strides over the past year, standing out at multiple off-season events, including the Elite 11 Regional Camp and Under Armour Next Camp in March. Known for his strong arm, O'Neal is considered the most accurate deep ball thrower on the West Coast, regardless of class.

This off-season, O'Neal has shed nearly 10 pounds, enhancing his mobility in and out of the pocket. He possesses a prototype throwing motion with a clean release, and the ball jumps out of his hand. He is accurate at all three levels of the field and performs well on the run. Improvements in escapability and play extension in a pressured pocket are areas to watch.

In 2023, O'Neal threw for 2,475 yards and 27 touchdowns, with a 61 percent completion rate over 11 games as a sophomore at Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, California. He transferred to Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California, during the off-season. O'Neal's raw talent gives him the potential to play for any Power 4 program.

- A name that has flown under the radar for Oregon recruiting is Hayden Lowe. Lowe – who attends the same high school as former Duck Kayvon Thibodeaux and considers him to be a mentor – is rated as the No. 10 defensive end and No. 211 overall player in the nation.

Lowe is one of the top edge rushers in the 2025 class, showing significant long-term potential. Standing at a prototypical 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Lowe is easy to project as a future standout. His long arms and athleticism allow him to play various positions along the defensive line, and he has the frame to add another 20-25 pounds without sacrificing agility.

A naturally strong player, Lowe excels at taking on double teams and advancing upfield. He is equally effective against the run and in rushing the quarterback, demonstrating a strong edge in his game. His explosive first step and ability to dip and turn the corner enable him to beat most tackles with ease.

Lowe has been to Eugene on an unofficial visit and has a strong relationship with a lot of the staff. He will return on June 7 for an official visit.

[Updated May24] 2025 DL JJ Hanne (Santa Margarita) has a strong connection to Nebraska

Here is extensive commentary from our Rivals Nebraska staff:

JJ Hanne is a versatile defensive lineman with the potential to grow into a true nose tackle. Originally from Germany, Hanne has only been playing the game of football for two years but is further along than most would expect considering his experience.

He's a legit 6-foot-5, 270 pounds with impressive mobility for his size. I caught up with him over the weekend and he's quite interested in Nebraska. He's had a relationship with running backs coach EJ Barthel for a while, and was honored by the offer.

He's set to speak with defensive coordinator Tony White this week and hopes to visit Nebraska this summer. Hanne is part of the PPI Recruits, an organization that helps aspiring international football players find collegiate homes, and will be touring with them this summer.

I confirmed with PPI Recruits founder Brandon Collier that he plans to bring a group of international prospects to Nebraska in June. After the tour, Hanne plans to head back to Germany, where his family is still living, for the summer where he plans to discuss official visit plans with his mother.

It's early, but I'd expect Nebraska to get one of those official visits, the communication, even before he got the offer, has the Huskers standing out.

Calvin Christian's late rally defeats Rock Academy 8-4 for Division 5AA Title

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-Triton Field-University of California at San Diego-5-23-24-For the first time since 2019 when Calvin Christian lost to the Tigers of Morse 7-5, but today's game was different for the Mighty Crusaders of Calvin Christian 21-3 after trailing 4-3 after 3 innings as they came back key hits runs scored as they scored 2 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th as they defeated a very competitive Rock Academy Warriors at 16-9 by an 8-4 score.

Stephen Johnson Head Baseball Coach at Calvin Christian: "We have been hitting well all year along with having a few key games in the last 2 days but we pulled together with timely hitting along with some good base running for the win." " Trailing 4-3 I believed in our squad in the past year we had a lot of comeback wins and I knew that we pulled things together we had a great team with a great group of guys." "Brayden Brown my pitcher recorded 14 consecutive outs for us he's been great all year and has thrown a lot of strikes along with timely pitches one of them he threw was a good off speed he had 7 more pitches left in the game on his pitch count for the limit."

Calvin Christian Batters: Caleb Hughes 2 singles 2 runs scored. Tyler Hoff 1 single 1 run scored 1 triple 1 rbi Brayden Brown 1 double 1 triple 1 single 2 runs scored.

This is Calvin Christian's First CIF San Diego Section Title since 2015 when they defeated Calapatria 7-2. 1995 lost to Holtville 5-4, 2019 lost to Morse 7-5, 2013 Defeated Julian 8-0. Their 4th San Diego Section CIF Title in School History.

The last time a school in the city of Escondido that won a CIF San Diego Section Baseball title was back in 2021 when Orange Glen defeated Escondido Charter 5-4.

Jeremiah Castillo's home run over the right field fence paces Matadors of Mount Miguel 5-3 for D5 CIF title

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-5-23-24-For the first time since their last appearance in 2019 when they lost to Morse High School 5-4, the Matadors won their first D5 CIF San Diego Section title as Jeremiah Castillo's 2 run homer cleared the right field fence as they defeated the Komets of Kearny High by a 5-3 victory.

Ty Kelly won the Sportsmanship Award for Mount Miguel. Matt Barton was the winning pitcher for the 15-16 Matadors as he pitched 7 innings gave up 4 hits 3 runs 1 earned 7 strikeouts.

Inside scoop from TX on 8 CA targets: Marcus Harris,Kaleb Edwards,John Mills,Josiah Sharma,Hayden Lowe,Madden Faraimo,Marco Jones, and Chris Henry Jr.

From our Rivals Texas staff:

With Texas looking to dip into California again in the 2025 cycle (there are currently eight players from the Golden State scheduled to take OVs to Texas), we checked in with some West Coast sources to get updates on those targets …

* WR Marcus Harris (Texas OV June 21) – There was a time early on that it looked like Texas might be the team to beat for the Mater Dei product. The Longhorns are still heavily involved, but the race apparently has evened out a bit. With the potential success of in-state receivers in addition to a guy like Jaime Frenchh, one source we spoke with wondered if Texas would still aggressively push for Harris’ commitment.

“I think Oregon and Texas are probably the standouts right now. You could maybe put Bama in there too. Bama emerged more with that new offense and what they did at Washington,” the source said.

* Apparently, QB play is big for Harris. Texas obviously has Arch Manning but Oregon can sell transfer QB Dante Moore, and Harris is apparently very fond of Oregon WR coach Junior Adams.

* TE Kaleb Edwards (Texas OV June 7) – In talking to two sources, Edwards is a bit of a mystery. Nobody seems to have a good feel on what he’ll wind up doing. “I’ve never gotten a sense that he’s set to stay close or go far away. Not sure he knows what he wants to do,” one source said.

* OL John Mills (Texas OV June 14) – I have my FutureCast pick on Texas for this one. Sources out West think I’m on the right path. “I think Texas is definitely up there because of his recent visit there. He loves it on and off the field. And he loves Kyle Flood,” one source said.

* Another source said Mills has a bit of a chip on his shoulder because he feels he’s underrated (I agree, btw). Because of that, this person said he wants to play on the biggest of stages. Where better to do that than Texas? “There’s some pull to Washington, to Nebraska and Florida is interesting. But I feel like Texas is where he winds up,” that source said.

* DT Josiah Sharma (Texas OV June 7) – One source scoffed at Sharma’s current low 3-star rating on Rivals. Expect that to change in the next update, btw. Sharma is another that wants to play on the big stage. “He’s always talked about playing in the SEC. He’s talking about Bama and Georgia and Oklahoma. He’s not a kid tied to playing on the West Coast,” the source said.

* He is close to his mother, per a source, so that could be a draw to keep him out West. If he does stay close to home, keep an eye on Oregon. The source I spoke with wasn’t sure about his interest level in Texas, but noted that if he’s taking a UT OV you cannot count the Longhorns out, especially with Texas moving to the SEC.

* DE Hayden Lowe (Texas OV June 14) – The sense with Lowe, per one person I spoke with, is that he likely stays out West. I was told that Lowe doesn’t talk recruiting very much, but has given off a vibe that he might be favoring schools like UCLA, Oregon or Washington. Lowe does have OVs set to Miami, Georgia and Texas so we’ll see if the proximity thing holds true.

* LB Madden Faraimo (Texas OV June 21) – One person told me that early in his recruitment, Faraimo seemed like a lock to go to USC but he has opened up his options of late. Ohio State and Notre Dame are believed to be the current leaders. “But if he visits Texas, that’ll definitely be big,” the source said.

* LB/DE Marco Jones (Texas OV June 21) – Was told he’s a big baseball player too, so “that could play into his decision. One person said he has “ambitions” of going nationally with his recruitment, but the sense from people out West is that he’s more likely to stay local. “He’s never given me a big Texas vibe, but baseball will be a big thing so maybe that could help,” the source said.

* Rivals had a report this week that Texas is trying to make a push for 2026 five-star WR Chris Henry Jr., who is currently committed to Ohio State. I asked about him as well. “He definitely wants to visit Texas this summer. If (Brian) Hartline stays at Ohio State, it’s almost definite he’ll staying at Ohio State. But he wants to visit Texas.”

Recruiting updates on the Oregon connections with QB Ryder Lyons (Folsom) and ATH Brandon Arrington (Mount Miguel)

From our Rivals Oregon staff:

Ryder Lyons is an elite QB from Folsom (CA) High School for the class of 2026. He is also the younger brother of USC 2023 tight end commit Walker Lyons. The older brother is set to join USC following a religious mission.

Oregon will be in the mix no matter what as the Ducks were one of the earliest schools to offer a scholarship (fifth) and were the first ‘big time’ school to offer. The chances are that Ryder will also take a mission following high school, so this is as much about relationship building as anything.

A name to watch for the 2026 class is Brandon Arrington. A 6-2, 180-pound athlete from La Mesa (CA) Mount Miguel High School is working to get to Oregon on an unofficial visit but he has special intrigue with Oregon thanks in large part to his dual sport status.

As a sophomore, Arrington clocked a 10.43-100meter and 20.76-200meter and there is a strong appeal to Oregon with their history in both sports. Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame are the others that are recruiting Arrington the hardest right now. There is a long way to go here, just a name to watch.

Oregon State is targeting several California 2025 football prospects: Anthony League, Cory Butler, Ty Olsen, Noah Westbrook...

From our Rivals Oregon State staff:

After taking an official visit to Corvallis over the weekend, LB Kourdey Glass (Hanford) announced his commitment to the Beavers on Monday morning.

ATH Anthony League (Long Beach Millikan) is set to take a pair of official visit in his recruitment over the next several weeks starting with an official visit to Corvallis on May 31. He'll then take a trip to Arizona on June 14.

WR Cory Butler appears to only have one official visit currently set to Arizona State and our intel would suggest that the Sun Devils are in the best spot to land the Corona Centennial standout.

WR Ty Olsen plays for former Oregon State standout Nicholas Barnett at Del Norte in San Diego and visited Corvallis in the spring. Colorado State, Cal, San Jose State, and Washington State are among other notable contenders.

WR Noah Westbrook (Corona Centennial) does not have any official visit plans scheduled. He holds notable FBS offers from Colorado State, Oregon State, San Diego State, SMU, UNLV, and Washington State.

Weekend visits to Georgia: a surprising reaction after WRs Marcus Harris (Mater Dei) and Phillip Bell (Mission Viejo) finished their trips to Athens

From our Rivals Georgia staff:

Both WR Marcus Harris (Mater Dei) and WR Phillip Bell (Mission Viejo) were on campus this weekend and I heard a little more on Harris from various sources.

Coming into the visit I would had said it was a longshot for both California receivers but I believe the Bulldogs inserted itself as a major factor for at least Harris moving forward.

One interesting note from today - we're told that James Coley will be paying Phillip Bell a visit on Wednesday of this week.

[Updated May 14] Notre Dame coaches to be recruiting in SoCal this week. Here's who they'll be checking out

From our Rivals Notre Dame staff:

LB coach Max Bullough will make a trip to Ventura High to see 2026 linebacker target Tristan Phillips. The Irish offered Phillips on Pot of Gold Day. He visited Notre Dame in April.

Bullough will also make his way to Santa Ana Mater Dei. The loaded program has at least 24 players in the 2025, 2026 and 2027 classes with at least one scholarship offer, according to the Rivals database. Notre Dame has offered eight of them.

DB coach Mike Mickens is expected to be recruiting in California as well. He'll make a stop at Los Angeles Loyola for 2026 cornerback target Brandon Lockhart. The USC commit received a Notre Dame offer on Pot of Gold Day and then visited ND in April.

Mickens will also visit Mater Dei, which is home to 2025 cornerback target Chuck McDonald III. The four-star recruit who visited Notre Dame in March named a top four Sunday that didn't include the Irish. Georgia, Alabama, USC and Oregon made the list.

Defensive coordinator Al Golden is expected to complete the trio of coaches recruiting in California. He'll make it to Mater Dei with Bullough and Mickens to check on 2026 defensive tackle target Tomuhini Topui. The four-star recruit received a Notre Dame offer on Pot of Gold Day.

Golden will head to Lawndale Leuzinger for 2026 linebacker target Samu Moala. The four-star recruit visited Notre Dame in April after receiving an offer on Pot of Gold Day.

Golden will also look into a pair of lightly recruited linebacker prospects: Maximus Gunter of Quartz Hill in the 2027 class and Fifita Moore of Corona Centennial.

LB Noah Mikhail (Bonita) has three crucial visits coming up. Here's some perspective.

From our Oregon Rivals staff:

For a long time, USC looked like the early front runner for Noah Mikhail, but the Ducks have done a lot of work and have been working hard on their recruitment of the elite linebacker. He has been a top priority from the beginning and the work is starting to pay off as the Ducks seem to be up there as a top three with USC and Texas A&M.

Mikhail will be in Eugene again in six weeks (June 14) for an official visit to Eugene which will follow his official to USC (June 7) and precede his visit to Texas A&M (June 21). I like what Oregon has done with Mikhail and feel like they have made up significant ground. Let’s see how his three official visits go and we will get a much better idea.

Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli to visit two QBs in the San Diego area today (Thursday 5/9)

From our Rivals Notre Dame staff:

Notre Dame QB coach Gino Guidugli is expected to be recruiting in Californai today. His visits this time will include La Mesa Mount Miguel for 2026 athlete target Brandon Arrington and San Marcos Mission Hills for 2026 quarterback target Troy Huhn.

Arrington, who the Irish like at both wide receiver and cornerback, received a Notre Dame offer on Pot of Gold Day. Huhn visited Notre Dame in March after landing an offer in February.

Notre Dame becomes a serious contender for the commitment of LB Samu Moala (Leuzinger)

From our Notre Dame Rivals staff:

As Notre Dame tries to close on four-star linebacker Madden Faraimo in the 2025 class, the Irish are working on another California linebacker in the 2026 class: Samu Moala. The Rivals100 recruit already has national attention as Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia and Oklahoma are among those trying to pull him away from USC.

After Moala made a two-day visit for the Blue-Gold Game, the Irish felt really good about being a serious contender for him. Let’s see if head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive coordinator Al Golden and linebackers coach Max Bullough can keep the linebacker recruiting at an elite level with Moala’s recruitment.

After recent visits by DB Brandon Lockhart (Loyola) and LB Noah Mikhail (Bonita), Oregon feels much progress was made in their recruitment.

From our Rivals Oregon staff:

"I hate the term flip watch, but there is a lot of smoke around the potential for 2026 defensive back Brandon Lockhart to flip his commitment. He is currently committed to USC but made it to Eugene for the Spring Game and it really opened his eyes. There is a long way to go here, though, so even if he were to flip his commitment, the fact that he is a 2026 player should cause some caution at the moment.

Earlier this year it seemed pretty clear to me that Noah Mikhail was a longshot for the Ducks. But I also said that the staff were working really hard there because they feel he is another difference maker at linebacker.

Following his most recent visit and the direction of the Oregon defense, it is also pretty clear that the Ducks have made up a lot of ground. Enough to consider him someone that is more likely than not to get Dan Lanning to send out a single Duck emoji? Not yet. But the Ducks are in very good shape with Mikhail after his visit for the Spring Game."
