Hart hires replacement for Dave Munroe

Per the LA Times:

Zach Koebel, who coached the Newhall Hart boys' junior varsity basketball team last season and has been an assistant with the boys' varsity for four seasons, will take over the girls' program.

A history teacher on campus, Koebel replaces Dave Munroe, who announced his retirement from education effective at the end of this school year. In 18 seasons as coach of the girls' program, Munroe had a record of 384-124 and won two Southern Section titles — in his first season, 1990, and in 2006.

"It took a long time because he saw himself as a boys' coach, but he also saw it as a great opportunity," boys' Athletic Director Mike Herrington said of Koebel. "They've had a lot of success, and to follow Dave Munroe, he knows it's going to be tough.

"The girls were elated when they found out he was applying for the job."
