Latest thoughts from Oregon on OT Brandon Baker and DT Aydin Breland

From our Rivals.com Oregon writer:

"Brandon Baker continues to get hyped to every new school that enters the picture. I don’t want to discredit those reports because there is a reason that people hear how excited a player is after a visit. But given that Baker plans on taking this into the fall, I still think Oregon has a lot of juice in his recruitment and will still be a favorite down the stretch.

- I also am starting to get a better feeling about Baker’s teammate Aydin Breland
. Still a ways to go and you know everyone in the west is going to make a heavy push for an elite west coast DL, but the Ducks are quietly doing an outstanding job there.

Why the Oregon folks think they will get the commitment of Mater Dei's OT Brandon Baker

"Brandon Baker rose 64 spots to the No. 25 overall position in the most recent updates and is the number one offensive tackle in the nation according to Rivals.com. The elite Mater Dei prospect is also a Duck legacy as the younger brother of former Oregon defensive lineman Gary Baker.

But Baker has not let that cloud his process. Oregon lost its offensive line coach and main recruiter earlier this year and that set them back some. In fact, there were some inside the Hatfield Dowlin Complex that felt Baker was on the verge of committing prior to Adrian Klemm’s departure.

A’lique Terry has done a fantastic job of establishing a relationship with Baker and putting Oregon back in the driver's seat. I was never as concerned about the loss of Klemm as others because head coach Dan Lanning had also developed a really good bond with Baker and I think at the end of the day, the length of the relationships that existed were always going to work in Oregon’s favor.

Our prediction: Oregon."

Georgia is confident as RB Nate Frazier's decision nears

Here's the latest from our Georgia Rivals.com staff:

Rivals100 running back Nate Frazier took an unofficial visit to Georgia on June 10th. We are told that was an eye opening trip for the No. 1 nationally rated back and the Bulldogs set the bar high for the other contenders in his recruiting process.

One of those contenders was the Oregon Ducks who hosted Frazier on an official visit the following weekend. An Alabama official visit transpired the weekend after that one.

Texas A&M was another school that was talked about frequently but the No. 70 nationally rated prospect recently canceled an unofficial visit to College Station.

He followed that up with announcing a commitment announcement date of August 6th at 3:00 PM. The finalist in that announcement are Alabama, Georgia and Oregon.

From talking with sources over the last several weeks, we really like where Georgia stands with just over three days until a final decision. An official visit to Athens is already on the calendar for the South Carolina game in September as well.

Here's the latest from Georgia on RB Nate Frazier, S Peyton Woodyard, and DT Aydin Breland.

Weekend update from our Rivals.com Georgia writers:

We continue to hear that Georgia is in a good spot for No. 1 nationally-rated running back. Nate Frazier (Mater Dei). I have heard that Alabama might be the biggest threat to the Bulldogs, but I think Dell McGee can hold on and land the elite back from California.

Sources we speak to espouse nothing but confidence when it comes to Georgia’s position. Frazier seemed almost ready to commit when he took his unofficial to Athens the second weekend in June.

Texas A&M was supposed to host Frazier this past weekend but that visit was canceled. Frazier only has plans to take one official visit this fall at this time and that is to Athens, Georgia. That puts the Bulldogs in an excellent spot heading into the final decision on August 6th.

Safety Peyton Woodyard (St. John Bosco) drew attention last week by removing mentions of Georgia from his social media bios.

Woodyard has been pursued hard by Alabama, Ohio State, and USC in recent months. He also hasn’t been as fervently pro-Georgia on Twitter as he used to be.

Sources have told UGASports that things are good between Woodyard and Georgia. He speaks daily with Will Muschamp and Fran Brown. Despite rumors to the contrary, the Bulldogs aren’t “processing” Woodyard out of the class.

So he doesn’t seem to be on imminent flip watch, especially not due to anything that is or isn’t happening on his social media.

DT Aydin Breland (Mater Dei) was expected to take a pair of unofficial visits to Miami and Texas A&M this weekend but those visits were canceled. Oregon looked to be the favorite in the early parts of July but sources have indicated that things have heated up again with Georgia and the No. 102 nationally rated prospect.

Expect that flame to get even hotter if his teammate, Nate Frazier, pulls the trigger to the Bulldogs on August 6. This looks to be another Bulldogs/Ducks battle and Kirby Smart has gotten the best of his former defensive coordinator Dan Lanning on the recruiting trail as of late.

A decision was not expected to be imminent, but sources have indicated it could happen sooner than originally expected.

Weekend update: Oregon is not giving up on DB Dakoda Fields or QB Bear Bachmeier

Here's the latest from our Rivals.com Oregon writers:

USC commit Dakoda Fields (Serra) did make the trip to Oregon and the staff was very well prepared with Fields and a plan for his future. Despite the solid weekend, I did not expect a decommit or flip during the weekend. Might that come in the future? Difficult to tell. What I do know is that there will be some official visits for Fields in the fall and I expect that to make a significant difference with his status.

The Ducks are definitely not going to give up because Fields has been a primary defensive back target for quite some time. I am not going to predict a flip, but Fields is someone who could definitely still be in play for Oregon.

Bear Bachmeier (Murrieta Valley) may have been the most consistent passer on Saturday – and he has had an outstanding camp season. If it were not for the new commitment of Akili Smith Jr. to Oregon, Bachmeier would be the next guy up for Oregon at QB for the 2025 class.

I don’t think that Oregon takes two QBs in that class at this point, so if something changes and Smith chooses a different school, definitely keep on eye on Bachmeier.

Is LeBron's son Bryce considering a new transfer destination?

Per Eric Sondheimer, LA Times:

"In what could be huge basketball news, Bryce James, the younger son of LeBron James, has made inquires about transferring to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame instead of Campbell Hall. Nothing has been finalized. James has played the last two seasons with older brother Bronny at Sierra Canyon. Notre Dame defeated Sierra Canyon four times last season."

Ohio State reaction after LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (St. John Bosco) picks Notre Dame

From our Ohio State writers:

"After months of leading the conversation for four-star California linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, Ohio State got bad news on Sunday afternoon when the 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect informed them he was committing to Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish, long considered the primary competitor to the Buckeyes in this recruitment, hung around and won out largely in part to Viliamu-Asa's faith in God and his family's belief that Notre Dame presented a better academic opportunity for him were football to not work out in his long-term favor.

As recently as Friday, Ohio State sources were "very confident" that the Buckeyes had done enough, for long enough, to be the choice. On Sunday, the message from the country's No. 3-ranked linebacker revolved around a feeling that God had spoken to him and was leading him to Notre Dame.

In recruiting in the year 2023, absolutely nothing can be taken for granted and even when a school does everything right—and Ohio State did that in this recruitment—sometimes it's just not enough."

Breaking news on imminent flip of Oregon State commit Palma WR Logan Saldate

Per our Oregon State sources:

"Wide receiver commitment Logan Saldate has been pursued heavily by Notre Dame recently, and it sounds like the Irish are quite confident that they're going to pull off a flip of the Salinas (CA) native. I've checked in with a few sources as well in the know of the recruitment and have been told quite simply that he's going to end up at Notre Dame. A flip could be coming sometime in the next 24-72 hours if I had to guess."

We went 11-2 last year with only 4 returning starters. We obviously have a more experienced team and feel we are really deep in some of our positions. Our schedule is arguably the toughest in my 12 years at CBAD. We will be tested every week and have to stay healthy. There are numerous teams that can beat us. Inglewood, Mater Dei, Casteel, Mission Hills and El Caminino seem to be the ones that stick out at the moment. We have won our league 4 years in a row and been to the Open Division Final 3 years in a row. This is a very hungry Program who has a lot to prove!
