From our Ohio State writers:

"After months of leading the conversation for four-star California linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, Ohio State got bad news on Sunday afternoon when the 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect informed them he was committing to Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish, long considered the primary competitor to the Buckeyes in this recruitment, hung around and won out largely in part to Viliamu-Asa's faith in God and his family's belief that Notre Dame presented a better academic opportunity for him were football to not work out in his long-term favor.

As recently as Friday, Ohio State sources were "very confident" that the Buckeyes had done enough, for long enough, to be the choice. On Sunday, the message from the country's No. 3-ranked linebacker revolved around a feeling that God had spoken to him and was leading him to Notre Dame.

In recruiting in the year 2023, absolutely nothing can be taken for granted and even when a school does everything right—and Ohio State did that in this recruitment—sometimes it's just not enough."
