More insight on the new transfer rule

I've been reading some of the latest news and picked up a few tidbits I wasn't aware of:

1. the Central Section voted along with the Southern Section last Wednesday so 10 more votes were added to those who favor the new rule.

2. 68 1/2 total votes are needed.

3. the San Diego, Los Angeles and Sac-Joaquin sections are also expected to vote for the new 30-day rule so it appears that it will certainly be passed.

4. the state CIF meets May 4-5 in Milpitas. The rule would take effect for the 2012-2013 school year.

5. there is some small print I wasn't aware of. This will not necessarily open the door to unlimited transfers. If a school accepts 3 or more transfers in one sport, section administrators can investigate and impose their own penalties, like postseason bans.

6. Part of the reason that some sections want to give this new rule a chance relates to cost-saving. More than $1 million per year is spent throughout the state in litigation costs related to transfer denials. Each case costs several hundred dollars.

There will be two leagues, an A and a B, to differentiate levels of ability. All games will be played by regulation high school rules, and certified officials will officiate all games. There will also be different clinics throughout the day, such as a post guard college workout. This camp fills up quickly, spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. If you have the opportunity to talk to players who have been through Jackie's camps, they will tell you it is like no other camp - and it is the best camp experience they have ever had.

You will spend 12 hours a day either on the court or in the classroom. The pace will be fast. You will learn to use your dribble, your teammates, your opponents and your own "sense of where you are" to create space, or shooting openings. We will teach you ball handling and shooting workouts that are taught in sequential order and provide the building blocks of Jackie's system. You will learn new and innovative ideas about the "great equalizer;" physical strength and conditioning. You will learn not only how - but why - which will help you become a team leader who is "a coach on the floor." You will become a better teammate and a better person.

In the end, you will walk out of camp empowered with the skills to maximize, to the fullest, a once in a lifetime opportunity; the privilege of playing basketball.

What Two Schools Have Real Shot At Shabazz Muhammad

I talked to somebody close to the recruitment of the No.1 player in the country Shabazz Muhammad and I was told that its going to come down to Kentucky or UNLV.

"Kentucky always looked like a good spot for him, and UNLV is a real option they are making a strong push for him to stay home." I was told.

When asked about UCLA

They're is some vested interest with UCLA, but Kentucky or UNLV are looking like real options.

Also some said Muhammad would make a trip to Arizona this past weekend for the Washington game, Muhammad was a no show.

Reason Arizona isn't recruiting him I was told.

Culver City wins handily in playoff opener

The Culver City Centaurs did get an early scare from El Dorado, the 6th place team from the 7 team Century league that includes powerhouse Brea Olinda. CC trailed, in the Division 2A game, by as much as 6 halfway through the first quarter but gradually dug into the lead and had evened it by the end of the first quarter and then just kept building on that lead as the game progressed. Centaur point guard Taylor Tanita did her usual impressive job of controlling the game but got solid contributions from several her teammates. Lunden Junious provided point scoring & rebounding, as did Kelsey Ueda. Mithzy Hernandez turned in an impressive defensive effort to help slow El Dorado's inside game. The Centaurs ended up coasting in the 4th quarter to their 62-37 win.
