CIF, Mater Dei settle lawsuit

After spending over $109,000 in attorney's fees, the CIF-SS reached an out of court settlement. Here's an excerpt of the LA Times article:

The Diocese of Orange and Santa Ana Mater Dei High have reached agreement in principle to settle a 2-year-old lawsuit against the CIF Southern Section that alleged unfair treatment and discrimination against Mater Dei athletes, attorney Jerome Jackson said Thursday.
A notice of settlement is expected to be filed Friday.
Jackson said his clients are satisfied that a change in attitude has occurred at the Southern Section office, citing the retirement of former commissioner Jim Staunton and the hiring of new Commissioner Rob Wigod.

The lawsuit was filed in 2010 after two transfer students, football player Todd Hunt and water polo player Jon Walters, were denied athletic eligibility at Mater Dei.

Icemen College Viewing Night (Oct 2) Players of Note

Players of Note….Icemen College
Viewing Night, Cal Lutheran HS, Oct 2, 2012

Jonathon Rutz, Lake Arrowhead Christian, 6'7
2013, A tall off guard with pretty good
skill level, rebs well, and defends. Ok shooter and nice overall game.
Intriguing player because of size.

Ejere Okori, Fontana, 6'0, 2013, plays hard, nice drive game. Pretty athletic and played hard whole night.
Good upside. Shot is ok.

Adriel McGee, Fontana, 6'4, 2013 Very nice game, plays hard and is athletic.
Need to defend better, but has a good upside. Needs to play guard at college
level. Left hand needs work. Like this
young man.

Michael Price, Temecula Valley,6'1, 2013, plays
hard and is a good outside shooter. Made
better choices and drove the ball well.
Really tough and guards. Like his
game.

Ryan Schaefer, Temecula Valley,6'2, 2013, was a
nice surprise, swiss army knife, does multiple things well. Has to get stronger and defend better but has
a nice upside. A player I will track!

Spencer Benson, Vista Murrieta, 6'4, 2014, plays in spurts, has to defend better. Is super motivated and shoots pretty
good. Decisions were good, rebounds well
and plays at a good pace. Has a nice
upside.

Deion McCoy, Citrus Hill, 6'0 2013, is an up and
down player. One day he's dynamite and can't miss, next night he's quiet. Needs to get stronger. When he puts it all together will be a heck
of a player. Rebs ok, handles good, shot
is good.

Trace Redfield, Rancho Christian, 5'11, 2016, plays hard, handles were ok, made some
great plays and then silly ones. Really
tough and has a nice upside. Will track his progress.

Damon Prince, Elsinore, 6'8, 2013, Has ok
instincts, needs to get stronger. Bigs take longer but has some pieces. Good college red shirt prospect. Rebounded
well and can hit a 8-10 footer.

Anthony White, Vista Murrieta, 6'2, 2013, has a great offense game. Shoots streaky, but
when gets it going can really score. Goes right, needs work on left. Has to
play defend and show next level he has multiple weapons. Athletic and tough.

Evan Roberts, Vista Murrieta, 6'8, 2013 plays mostly perimeter and needs to get
inside more and use his length. Can
shoot it from 3, but a set shot. Drive
game needs work. Rebounded well and really has a great feel. STRENGTH, must get stronger. When he can put it all together he can do
some damage.

Lance Jones, Rancho Verde, 6'2, 2013, This kid
plays hard! Only knows one way. Post skills are above avg, but has to convert
to wing for next level. Strong as an ox,
competitive, coachable and makes his teammates better. Shot has to get better
but is putting the time in. Love his upside!

Mark Eden, Don Lugo, 5'4, 2013, Love this kid.
He plays for me so I know his game. Drive game is outstanding, pick and roll
game is good, and shot is fantastic. I call him "mighty mark" cause he thinks
he is the best player in the gym at all times. Got first offer night of event. Will have a fantastic college career.

Ryan Smith, Cal Lutheran, 6'10, 2013, He plays for me so I know his game. Big body
with incredible improvement the last year. Plays hard and is just starting to
put it together. Rebs well, plays pick
and roll well. Can step out to three line and post up strong. Footwork, balance
and strength have all improved. Some D1 offers.

Terrell Fuller, Rancho Christian, 6'7 2014, I
called him "Baby Reggie" as he looks like Reggie Miller. Plays hard, does good things on the floor.
Must get stronger. Drive game and feel
is solid. Has a great sense of game
(which is hard to teach).

Brandon Rosser, Temecula Valley, 6'7, 2013, He plays for me and know his game. His drive
game has to get more consistent, settles for to many jumpers, but when he is on
"it's over". Rebounds ok, but is capable
of double-double. Has to defend better
and really can lock down people. He is
up and down and when he is consistent he is a top recruit, period. D1 offers.

Jasper Watt, Jurupa Hills, 6'4, 2013, incredible
athlete, blocks shots, and can change a game defensively. Offense is limited but still does so many
great things. Works super hard. Shot needs to improve. The Surprise of the
event. Love this kid.

Devin Presha, Jurupa Hills, 6'2, 2013 another
nice surprise, makes good decisions with the ball. Shot is adequate, plays in
spurts. More consistency and will be really nice. Love his upside.

Marcus Garcia, Fontana, 6'0, 2013, fundamentally
sound and tough. Ok shot and overall game is solid. Needs to go downhill on drives and make
better decisions.

Fidel Silva, Fontana, 5'8, 2013, great
penetrator, needs to look dish more often.
Shot is ok to 15 feet. Defended ok.
Plays with a lot of passion.

Jamal Brower, Rancho Christian, 5'10, 2016, Like
his game. Fiesty and tough. Makes good decisions. Shot is ok. Needs to defend better. Young up and comer.

Benjamin-Quinn Rogers, Rancho Christian, 6'0, 2015, plays
hard and at good speeds. Reb well for size. Like his instincts. Needs to be consistent on def end and has
ability to lock people down. Good upside!

Jarred Davis, REV, 5'9, 2013, good open shooter with
distance to 3 line. Drive game has to get better. Makes ok choices. Floats to
much. Needs to rebound better. Can guard ok.

Matthew Wager, Rancho Christian, 6'6, 2014, Big
improvement since last saw him. Rebounds well, plays ok from 10ft and in. Needs
to screen and roll better and develop 10ft shot. Guarded tough.

Anthony Coleiro, Temecula Valley, 6'2, 2016, Tough, a
"swiss army knife" type player, can do many things well. Athletic, good passer,
needs to work on shot, as people will gap off him. Takes so breaks and needs to
stay focused, but love his game. A player to watch!

Due to time
constraints and number of players attending I might have missed some good ones.
For that I apologize. Our next event is
Sunday, Oct 28th.

Fresno City Coaching Clinic Saturday

FRESNO CITY COACHING CLINIC ARTICLE

The
sign of a great program can be seen when former players come back to
the gym years later and they are sill playing in the same style and
fashion as the current players on the team. It seems every year the
Fresno City Men's Basketball program reloads with a different set of
names and faces, but the tough/unselfish style of play remains. Head
Coach Ed Madec feels that the secret to his program's success is due to
the Culture that he has built, which is based on strict pillars made up
of hardwork, unselfishness, honesty, and integrity. The defending State
Champion's will have its culture, values, and principals on full display
at their annual 2012 Coaches Clinic on October 20th. The Rams return 3
of 5 starters along with two other key players from the 2012 State Title
Team. "Our coaching clinic is a great opportunity for coaches and
players to see the level of intensity and focus that it takes to win a
Championship" said head coach Ed Madec. "Our Culture is not something
that one can be told about . . . they have to be at the clinic to see it
and feel it for themselves."
