The schedule:
Upcoming Games
Thu 09/24 Golden Valley (Santa Clarita, CA) vs Hawthorne (CA) at Canyon (Canyon Country, CA), 7:00pm
Fri 09/25 San Marino (CA) at Beverly Hills (CA), 7:00pm
Fri 09/25 University (Los Angeles, CA) at Culver City (CA), 7:00pm
Fri 09/25 Lawndale (CA) at Palos Verdes Peninsula (Rolling Hills Estates, CA), 3:00pm
Fri 09/25 Santa Monica (CA) at Valencia (CA), 7:00pm
Fri 09/25 El Segundo (CA) vs Torrance (CA) at Zamperini Stadium (Torrance, CA), 7:00pm

The league does not look particularly strong this year. Lawndale (2-1) and El Segundo (3-0) should finish first and second. Santa Monica (0-3) has had some suprising losses this year, but usually to quality opponents. Culver City (1-2) may be on the rise as their sophomore QB gains experience every week. Hawthorne (0-3) & Beverly Hills (0-3) are still struggling and will not compete for a playoff spot. The first place finisher should be able to get to the second round of the playoffs, but no promises for anything else out of the league this year.

This week. Golden Valley 3-1 beats Hawthorne
Beverly Hills loses badly to a surging San Marino (4-0)
Looking for a breakout game by Culver City over University (1-2) from the city section
Santa Monica catches Valencia (1-2) slightly down from previous years but they are still way stronger than what SM has shown this year.
Lawndale should steamroll through a well coached but talent starved Peninsula (1-2).
El Segundo will crush a struggling Torrance (0-3).

Good analysis Grizz. It looks like the Ocean League will only have competitive games when they play each other.
Californiapreps.com will be covering the Hawthorne vs. Golden Valley game at Canyon. It's ironic that Golden Valley may be involved in another game that's a rout but this time they're on the predicted winning side for a change. We'll see.

Dave,
The Grizzlies no longer belong in the lowest echelon of hs football teams but are still trying to get to that level where they would be considered a competitive football team in the Foothill league. Still 0-44 in league, but with high hopes to get the first Foothill win this year. First, a bit of school record breaking should happen tonight as GV has never even had a varsity season in which they have won at least 4 games. Tonight's win would move them to 4-1 on the season and that has never happened.

I am hoping Culver City is not bothered by the long bus ride to Channel Islands. CC is a young team and could continue to get better as the season goes on. Their may be a key injury in the secondary for Culver but I am not privy to injury status for Culver. A win for CC means they can probably be considered the favorites for third in league, but they face the toughest league opponent next week when they open league season against Lawndale. No more time to practice or fine tune.

I may be underestimating Lawndale a bit. They opened against 2 strong opponents and shocked Crespi although we know Crespi seems to be way down this year but when you are a Western Division team you are just not supposed to beat a Crespi. Lawndale is on cruise control with a third easy opponent this week. Hoping that leaves them a little unprepared for the Culver speed.

El Segundo is 4-0 but has not played any strong opponents.....until this Friday against South Torrance. These are also 2 possible Western Division playoff opponents. Calpreps projection says it will be close. South already beat Lawndale in week 1 so we will have a measuring stick game to compare El Segundo and Lawndale after this.

Santa Monica is about as opposite of El Segundo in terms of competition and results. While SM is 0-4, they have faced stiff competition in all 4 games. This game against Pomona should be their easiest so far, but still tough for the way SM has been playing so far. SM has struggled scoring points, only 20 in 4 games. It will be interesting to see how much better they might look against Pomona.

I think Hawthorne could be a little better than their rating suggests. Some good athletes on a thin roster. They looked like they could be comparable to Uni who played Culver last week. I think they could keep it closer, than the Calpreps projection, against Leuzinger.

Beverly Hills just appears to be a mess. But they may turn out to be fine accountants and lawyers.
