Notre Dame is hoping to increase its chances with CB Chuck McDonald III

Per our Rivals Notre Dame writers after last week's visit:

Landing Chuck McDonald III (Mater Dei) was always going to be a longshot for Notre Dame. But getting him on campus makes it seems just slightly more realistic. And McDonald has expressed a desire to make a return visit as well.

The Irish have a chance, even though it’s still a slim one. Notre Dame will continue to try to make up ground with the elite cornerback.

Oregon has its sights on two top California 2026 quarterbacks

From our Rivals Oregon staff writers:

Newbury Park five-star QB Brady Smigiel is rated as the No.1 pro style QB and No. 4 overall player in the nation and has a lot of connections at different schools.

Nonetheless, he really likes the Oregon program having said that “Coach (Will) Stein is one of the best offensive minds in the country. He has every chance to be a head coach someday just with what he’s done with Bo Nix and all the quarterbacks there. It’s a hot spot for quarterbacks right now.”

It is going to be a long haul, but the Ducks are in a solid spot here and just need to continue having success with the offense and making him a massive priority.

- That’s not the only five-star quarterback the Ducks are working really hard for as Folson High School standout Ryder Lyons is also very high on Oregon. “(Oregon offensive coordinator Will) Stein is one of my favorite coaches and coach (Dan) Lanning. I talk to them frequently.”

The No. 1 dual threat QB and No. 6 overall player in the nation for the class of 2026 might be a more difficult pull for Oregon given his brother Walker signed with USC in the 2023 class and is due to come back from his religious mission soon.

That could make the Trojans a tough team to beat – but a lot could change between now and the time the younger brother signs with a school, so being in on his recruitment early could be a major factor down the road.

Rancho Buena Vista alum Bernie Truax finished in 5th place for Penn State at NCAA Wrestling Championships

Graduate Bernie Truax, the No. 6 seed at 184, battled No. 4 Trey Munoz of Oregon State in the consolation semifinals. Truax and Munoz worked the middle of the mat in Neutral to start the bout. Munoz moved behind Truax for a takedown :30 into the bout and then caught the Lion in a throw. He took him to the mat and finished off the pin at 2:29. The loss moved Truax to the fifth place bout.

He met No. 2 Isaiah Salazar of Minnesota for fifth place. The duo battled in neutral through the 2:00 mark. Truax worked his way in on a shot and took a 3-0 lead with a takedown at the 1:46 mark. He forced Salazar into a first stall warning while working his time edge up over 1:00. He controlled the action to finish on top and led 3-0 with 1:46 in riding time after one period. Truax chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 4-0 lead. He countered a slight Salazar shot for a second takedown and a 7-0 lead with 1:10 left in the stanza. He picked up a stall point as his time moved up over 2:00. He finished the period on top again and led 8-0 with 2:48 in time. Salazar chose neutral to start the final period. With riding time clinched, Truax went to work in the center of the mat and connected on a third takedown to up his lead to 11-0. Truax once again dominated the Gopher from the top position. He ended the period on top and, with over 3:00 in riding time, capped off a stellar collegiate career with a 12-0 major over Salazar. Truax went 5-2 over the weekend and became a four-time All-American with a fifth place finish. He ended his final season with a 19-6 record and finished with an 86-27 mark.

Oregon is pushing hard for another SoCal wide receiver visiting this weekend.

Per our Oregon Rivals staff:

I know Phillip Bell is slated to visit on April 4, but I think Oregon has some work to do with Bell. Originally from Sacramento, Bell has been in Southern California for a few years and the Trojans have been recruiting him longer than anyone.

Along with Ohio State, it would seem like a top two has emerged as those are the two teams he has been talking about the most. Bell’s mom is going to have a huge say in where he goes, so the visit in April could help move Oregon up the list for the four-star wide receiver from Missions Viejo.

WR Chris Henry (Mater Dei) may be committed to Ohio State but Oregon is pushing hard.

Per our Oregon Rivals staff:

2026 wide receiver Chris Henry – who transferred high schools this off season from Withrow High School in Cincinnati to Mater Dei – will be making a visit to Oregon next month to check out the program up close for the first time. The son of former Bengals player Chris Henry Sr., the younger Henry is committed to Ohio State but still wants to check out other programs ahead of the 2026 signing dates.

The 6-5, 190-pound wide receiver is the No. 1 wide receiver for the 2026 class and No. 3 overall player in the nation. I would not count Oregon out here as I think the move is likely going to at least get him a lot more exposure to the program through other players at Mater Dei as well as the opportunity to get to Eugene more often than if he were still living in Ohio. There is a long way to go here, but Oregon is going to really push hard on this one.

LB Noah Mikhail (Bonita) visited Oregon over the weekend. Should USC be worried?

Four-star linebacker Noah Mikhail from Bonita High School in LaVerne (CA) visited Oregon again this past weekend. As most do, Mikhail really enjoyed his trip to Eugene and got a chance to glimpse the state at its finest weather wise and watch the Ducks practice at the same time.

The 6-3, 210-poind inside linebacker is going to make a lot of trips during the spring. Mikhail will be in the Southeast playing with California Power 7v7 and he will get a chance to see Alabama and other schools.

The Texas programs and other teams out West are all involved but this one still seems to have USC written all over it – the Ducks will continue to recruit him, but this one would be really a major long-shot.

Here's what Jordon Davison's dad said about RB coach Alford leaving Ohio State to go to Michigan

Per our Rivals' Michigan publisher:

Spoke with the father of 2025 five-star running back Jordon Davison this evening [Thursday 3/14], the family had built a particularly close bond with Tony Alford while he was with Ohio State. Naturally, I asked about what Alford's presence means for the Wolverines' chances moving forward.

Here are some quick notes

On Alford: "Him and Jordon have a great, very great, relationship. He played a big role in is recruitment and I respect coach Alford. He's a good coach."

On Alford's presence in Ann Arbor means for for the Wolverines: "It added a team for sure we will be coming to check out the school soon."

He added that a date had not been finalized but 'should be soon.'

As for U-M's run game, Mr. Davison mentioned that Jordon was a fan of Blake Corum and they both are planning to look into the running game more with Alford hired.

Exclusive football updates on Texas's chances with Jordon Davison, Marcus Harris, John Mills, and Dijon Lee Jr.

Per our Rivals Texas insiders:

Most of the focus for the UT staff is on the underclassmen in the 2025 and 2026 classes. We decided to check with some West Coast sources to get some updates on profiles.

* Five-star RB Jordon Davison, out of Mater Dei in Cali, continues to look like a very real option for Texas in the 2025 cycle. One source said it looks to be a Texas-Ohio State battle (I agree, FWIW), with Georgia and Oregon also in the race.

* Alabama was thought to be a player for Davison when Nick Saban was there but this source said Davison is looking for a certain style of offense and Kalen DeBoer’s offenses don’t really fit Davison’s style. “He’s more of a between the tackles type of runner. He can get to the outside, but he’s more of a banger. Texas makes sense there. He’s always fashioned himself after Ezekiel Elliott so Ohio State makes a lot of sense too.”

* Davison’s teammate, 2025 WR Marcus Harris, has been high on Texas for a while. A source this week said things are still up in the air for Harris, but listed Texas and Oregon as the top two. Tennessee and Ohio State were others that were mentioned.

* Offensive lineman John Mills attended UT’s junior day in January. I’m told Mills is “wide open right now” but has about eight schools that are in play. “I would say probably Michigan, Texas and maybe A&M now that they’re involved.”

* Potential five-star corner Dijon Lee Jr. has already visited Texas once, but it sounds like the Longhorns are behind with the Mission Viejo (CA) standout. “Now that Donte (Williams) moved to Georiga, I think Georgia is a serious competitor. USC will be in there. Texas might be in there, but I feel like if he’s going to leave California it would be to go to Georgia to be with Donte.”

Texas A&M is confident they'll land QB Huson Longstreet (Corona Centennial)

From our Texas A&M writers:

"Longstreet will be visiting A&M March 29, and I’m told A&M is the leader in this recruitment and the only team making it interesting is Auburn.

He last visited A&M in January and that visit blew him out of the water. He’s at the top of the quarterback board for A&M and it would be huge to get him to commit early and help recruit this class.

He has one of the best arms in the country and gets the ball out very very quickly. Offensive coordinator Collin Klein is on this recruitment very hard. I’ve gone ahead and put in a FutureCast for A&M."

RB Karson Cox is set to visit Oregon. This could get interesting...

Our Oregon writing staff sees some intriguing possibilities with the under-the-radar Cox:

"2025 Oak Hills (Heperia, CA) running back Karson Cox is set to make an unofficial visit to Eugene on April 7 to check out spring practices for Oregon. The 6-0, 190 pound three star had a solid junior season rushing for 1,349 yards and 19 touchdowns while averaging 10.5 yards per carry.

He also had 13 receptions for 176 yards and three more scores. Unlike some elite players at the high school level, Cox is also a part time starter at linebacker since and notched 23 tackles last season as well.

Cox has been to Oregon once before and wants to also work out some plans for an official visit in Eugene, but this is another name to watch. This is someone that has sort of flown under the radar but he could flourish in the Oregon offense."
