David Bottom ready for 2nd year at Vista High

David Bottom will be entering his second year as head coach with a lot of talent coming back for 2017. The Panthers finished with a 4-8 record along with a win over the Bulldogs of Ramona at the Bulldogs Field and lost to San Marcos twice in the regular season and CIF Section game.


Here is what the Panthers have back from last season. We're going to be an aggressive team with a lot of returning talent we return 8 seniors from last year out of 45 athletes but kids are always driven and will see what they can do for us in 2017."


"We will be strong at running back in 2 way players Vavega Siloa and Nick Stormo the two seniors that have been offered football scholarships for us, they run hard and lead the team with their senior leadership are going to be good for us." said Coach Bottom. "At QB Josh Davies returns for his senior year after starting 12 games for us last season and has looked impressive in training camp this year." "Tony Pao Pao has help Josh develop into a better passer with good arm strength, accuracy and leadership." Our offensive line will average 260 pounds per player." on the line

Two Way Player LB in sr Vavega Siloa will be starting at linebacker with his help and leadership will motivate and bring the defensive group together as in Nick Stormo who might play defense along with a couple of players that will we will rotate."

BAY AREA COMPETITION CLINIC

The 14th annual Bay Area Competition clinic will be held Saturday September 9, 2017 at Nor Cal Courts in Martinez from 12 noon to 9 pm. The event is open to individual players and teams in all high school grades (classes of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021).

An individual skill work drill session will be held to start the event. Each team will play three games after the drill session. A report on the event will be done by the Hoop Review scouting service that will be sent to college coaches and various internet sites.

2017 NOR CAL CLASH

The eighth annual Nor Cal Clash will be held Sunday August 27th at Contra Costa College in San Pablo at 3:00 pm. This one-game event will have elite players from Northern California in the class of 2018 playing against elite players in the class of 2019.

The purpose of the event is to help promote Nor Cal basketball and its’ elite prospects. A report on the event will be done by the Hoop Review scouting service in addition to websites norcalpreps.com, californiapreps.com, prep2prep.com and other media outlets.

Coaching in the event will be Derek Walker of Division IV state champion St. Patrick-St. Vincent and Melvin Easley of Division I state runner-up James Logan.

The list of players participating in the event will be announced on August 10.

In an embarrassing final note to the 2016 prep football season, the City Section announced Wednesday that Division II champion Los Angeles and runner-up Hawkins have each vacated their final spots after ineligible players were discovered.

Los Angeles, which finished 11-4, will drop to 1-14. Hawkins, which was 13-1, will be 1-13. The title will stay vacant.

City Section coaches will vote at a meeting on July 22 on a proposal to create an open division for the upcoming playoffs.

This is for middle school players, age 9-14.

Friday, June 23 at Golden Valley high school 10 AM until 2 PM. NBA draft combine testing (vertical, shuttle, quickness, etc.), high level skill work, and games.

This will be the 18th summer for Green Room Training program, located in Northern California (Santa Rosa). www.greenroomtraining.net The program includes players from high school, college, overseas professionals, and NBA talents. GRT has had multiple players in the last few years reach their NBA dreams (two NBA Lottery Picks and multiple draft picks), however, it is the boutique-style that allows varying levels of abilities to train in one high-level environment. The program starts June 12th and continues till Mid August. Past Alumni include Josh Jackson (will be this years #1, #2, #3 Draft pick), Marquese Chriss (#9 pick last year), Shabazz Muhammad (Lottery Pick), Sir Dominic Pointer (2nd Round), etc. The great part of the program is over achieving high school players, that work hard, able to train at the same levels, and with professionals.

GRT includes both skill sessions in the morning, followed by strength and conditioning training in the evening. The program includes meal replacement drinks, pre-post workout drinks, and yoga classes. People can sign up just for the morning skills, or the entire program per request.

Local Charity Basketball Game Hosts NFL & NBA Players to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

San Diego remembers fallen native Genevieve Costello in 5th Annual Live4Gen Charity Events

San Diego, CA. June 17, 2017 – Each year, Live4Gen hosts its premier event in the summer to remember Genevieve Costello.

On Saturday, June 17th at San Diego High School, the 5 th Annual Live4Gen Charity Basketball Games and Inaugural Dominique Jones Youth Football Camp will bridge sports and the San Diego community by serving as a charitable platform for professional athletes and community leaders.

The mission of the Live4Gen Foundation are twofold: to remember and honor the legacy of Genevieve Costello; and to raise awareness and funds that will create and launch programs and initiatives in the San Diego community, providing breast cancer education and resources to young women under the age of 30.

Diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in April of 2013, Gen lost her battle three weeks later at the age of 26. Live4Gen founder Jerica Williams, Genevieve’s former middle and high school basketball teammate, has had four childhood friends from the same neighborhood who were diagnosed with cancer, all under the age of 30.

Live4Gen strives to provide breast cancer educational resources, teaching the importance of health prevention and early intervention.

The Dominique Jones football will kick off the day from 8am to 12pm with 150 youth campers. At 6:00pm, some of the best girls basketball players to ever come out of San Diego will play in honor of Gen. Head Coach of SDSU Women’s Basketball, Stacie Terry, will join as guest coach.

The highly anticipated charity basketball game will take place at 7:30pm in Caver Gym. To cap off the night, the official Live4Gen celebration and after-party will be hosted at AD Nightclub in the gaslamp.

A portion of the money made that night will be donated to Live4Gen.

Live4Gen has partnered with fellow native and NFL player Dominique Jones to host many professional athletes from around the country to participate in the events.

Special guests include Darren Sproles (Eagles), Mike Tolbert (Buffalo Bills), Darrel Young (Carolina Panthers), Leon McFadden (Dallas Cowboys), JaCorey Shepherd (49ers), LaMarr Woodley (NFL), Moe Ager (NBA Vet), Jared Dudley (Phoenix Suns) and more.

Legendary Etiwanda basketball coach Dave Kleckner was in the news Sunday night when news broke that he has resigned from his position. Kleck has won 562 games-186. His tough man to man defense and dominance in the Baseline League and area is notable in his tenure. My favorite of his teams were the ones with a pair of NBA players in Darren Collison and Jeff Pendergraph/Ayres.

Former Oaks Christian quarterback Matt Corral, a USC commit, is taking his talents to Long Beach Poly.

Corral confirmed Tuesday night he will join the Jackrabbits.

One reason will be the chance to graduate early and join USC for spring practice in 2018.

He left Oaks Christian in a dispute with school officials after being a three-year starter at quarterback for the Lions. His family is expected to move into the Poly district, making him eligible immediately.

2017 Bay Area Memorial Day Classic

The 7th annual Bay Area Memorial Day Classic will be held Saturday to Monday May 27-29, 2017 at Jamtown in Oakland and Ultimate Fieldhouse in Walnut Creek. The event will have teams in four divisions: 17 Elite, 17 Varsity, 16/Junior Varsity and 14-15/ Frosh. Championships in all divisions will be held on Monday, May 29 at Jamtown.

MVP awards will be given in each division. A report on the event will be done by the Hoop Review scouting service that will be sent to college coaches and various internet sites.

The Clark High basketball team has a new coach — well, sort of.

Chad Beeten is back at the helm of the Chargers’ program, returning to the Las Vegas power he built after one season coaching in Southern California.

Beeten took Clark from one of the Southern Nevada’s worst programs to one of the best, winning three straight class 3A titles through the 2015-16 season before leaving for Crossroads in Santa Monica.

“I learned the grass isn't always greener on the other side,” Beeten said. “I learned Clark is a great place and always was a great place. I didn’t leave Clark. I left for a different opportunity (in California) that wasn't the right fit.”

The Southern Section Council voted Wednesday to support a revision in the CIF transfer rule that would eliminate the power of section commissioners to make athletes who transfer for sports reasons ineligible.

The vote from member leagues was 63-12-1 in favor of a proposal that will be considered Friday at the CIF state Federated Council meeting in Ontario.

The City Section also supports the proposal. If passed, athletes and their parents can openly say they are transferring for athletic reasons and a commissioner won't declare them ineligible.

Athletes will still be subjected to a sit-out period if they transfer without moving, they can't follow a coach to another school and recruiting would still be illegal.
