Sit out period ending

Per Eric Sondheimer, LA Times:

"The transfer sit-out period ends Monday for Southern Section football players, which means several teams are about to get better real fast.

St. John Bosco’s secondary will get even stronger with the arrival of former Gardena Serra safety Jason Mitchell.

Newbury Park’s defense picks up Chaminade defensive lineman TJ Ford.

Oaks Christian gains Calabasas transfer Joseph Peko, a defensive lineman.

Rancho Cucamonga and Los Alamitos will get additional depth with multiple players becoming eligible.

One school facing scrutiny is Nogales, which played an ineligible player two weeks ago and could face sanctions from the Southern Section. No decision has been announced whether any forfeits or punishment is coming to the school or team."

Latest thoughts from Texas on their recruitment chances for OT Brandon Baker (Mater Dei)

The latest from our Rivals.com Texas writers:

"We’ve reported for a while that offensive lineman Brandon Baker was scheduled to take a Nebraska visit in September and a commitment would likely follow shortly after that trip. Baker confirmed this week that he has set a commitment date for September 24.

We continue to like UT’s position for the Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei Rivals100 member, with Ohio State providing a threat and Oregon being a longtime contender. We do expect NIL will be a factor in this one and with California having NIL regulations that allow high school athletes to make money, those conversations have been ongoing between colleges and Baker’s representation.

(Note from another writer: I more than like UT's position. As far as I'm concerned Texas has been a stone-cold favorite for a while.)

Here's what Arizona State commit Champ Westbrooks (Los Angeles Loyola) had to say after his gameday visit over the weekend

After a heartbreaking (to ASU fans) loss to Fresno State, OL Champ Westbrooks had this to say:

"Ever since the end of my sophomore year when he was at Fresno, Coach Tuitele was on me, then he introduced me to Coach Dillingham at a camp, and they offered me right then. It’s been great getting to know them, as well as the rest of the staff and future teammates.

"I am grateful for both of them. They’ve both been consistent in reaching out and checking up on my family and me, and I love that. I can’t wait to spend my collegiate career here with them and the rest of ASU’s community."

Here's a report on Mater Dei LB Abduall Sanders Jr.'s visit and subsequent offer from UCLA

Here's a report from Rivals UCLA writer Tracy McDannald:

Just got off the phone with Abduall Sanders Jr. coming off his visit to Saturday’s game.

“It was a great experience to watch them play,” he said. “The defense was swarming to the ball, filling gaps.”

UCLA is only the second program he’s taken a visit to. Only other one was Oklahoma, which also was an unofficial.

“I went to Oklahoma with a couple guys on my team and they made all of us feel involved and important,” Sanders Jr. said.

Sanders Jr. said he anticipates by spring he will start narrowing down his list of schools and start choosing programs to officially visit.

Although listed as an outside linebacker, he said he essentially plays both inside and outside at Mater Dei.

He mostly kept his interactions to UCLA ILB coach Ken Norton Jr., with some contact also with recruiting analyst Jordan Bland.

Sanders Jr. said the idea of learning from someone with a championship pedigree would be “a great opportunity.”

“It was nice putting a face to the voice,” he said. “Passing on his knowledge would be a great thing.

“He said I was a good kid, a downhill player that can do my job and do my assignments.”

As of right now, the schools he’s hearing from most are: Auburn, Kansas, Oklahoma, Michigan, UCLA and Utah.

Sanders Jr. said academics will play “a major part” in his ultimate decision.

“It attracts me a lot,” he said. “I want a staff that keeps you accountable (about grades).”

Other things he’s looking for in a program are a “team-oriented” environment and a program that “knows what they’re doing and wants to win.”

Sanders Jr. is a former teammate of and good friends with 2024 cornerback and UCLA commit Khristian Dunbar-Hawkins, who transferred from Mater Dei to Tustin. He’s also familiar with current Bruins cornerback and Mater Dei graduate Jaylin Davies and added that he watched Devin Kirkwood back when he was in high school at Gardena-Serra.

Is QB Bear Bachmeier (Murrieta Valley) ready to pull the trigger? Notre Dame thinks so.

Our Notre Dame Rivals writer is highly optimistic:

"I'm ready to pull the trigger on this one. With 2025 quarterback target Bear Bachmeier making his way to campus this weekend for an unofficial visit...and If all goes well for Bachmeier and Notre Dame, I think he'll beat Deuce Knight to the punch and commit to the Irish first.

"Will that all go down as soon as this weekend? We'll see. I certainly wouldn't rule it out. Regardless, I think Notre Dame comes out of the weekend feeling even better about its chances with Bachmeier, so I'm going to put my Rivals FutureCast prediction in Notre Dame's favor. I'll officially submit it publicly on Friday, but I wanted to give a heads up to our subscribers..."

Late Heroics pace El Camino in 35-24 victory over Palomar College

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-Escondido High School-Escondido, CA-9-9-23-In a well played contest that was held at Escondido High School the Eagles with some late heroics after trailing 24-21 14 points in the fourth on Dayton Tafoya 55 yard pass to Joshua Lorick and Amani Givens 66 yard run defeated the Palomar Comets by a 35-24 score.

Palomar Coach Joe Early: "We gave the game away today as how I'm upset in the way we performed on the field, El Camino popped the ball in the air and they took it to the house in the first half,in the second half we had a man to man coverage on them as we didn't follow up on tackling and didn't take it to the house so there are 14 points on 2 busted plays."

" We had opportunities by scoring on defense along with the personal fouls which hurt us which we defeated ourselves today but not to take anything away from El Camino we gave this game away When we led 24-21 I thought our squad was going to shut the game down or were going to win today it hard said Coach Early

" Our next opponent is College of the Canyons as we played Moorpark last week for a long road trip for our squad." said Coach Early

Palomar performers QB Clay Omohundro threw for 295 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Omarian Ireland led with 134 yards rushing Kyri Shoals in receptions 89 yards and 1 touchdown along with teammate Nate Washington 15 yards rushing and 1 touchdown.

Palomar falls to 1-1 and will take on College of the Canyons
