Jeff Sink resigns at Brea

Per OCVarsity.com

Jeff Sink resigned today at Brea Olinda, where he coached the Ladycats for 17 seasons. Brea won 10 CIF-Southern Section and four CIF State championships during his tenure. He was 480-74 at Brea. "It's been 17 amazing years with the Ladycats," he said. "I'm still going to keep teaching, and I'm hoping there will be other coaching challenges out there for me."

Brea Olinda principal Jerry Halpin announced Sink's resignation this afternoon. "I turn 60 pretty soon," Sink said. "I want to try something else before I go off into the pasture or wherever I end up going off to. I'm hoping an opportunity will present itself. I think I have a few more tricky game plans up my sleeve."

Teaching Motion: Fresno State Dribble Drive

At a coaching clinic a few years ago, in front of a large audience, one of the coaches asked me, "what part of the game of basketball is most connected to winning?" to which i replied, "Some say the team that out rebounds the opponent usually wins the game. Some say the team that has the least number of turnovers usually wins the game. Some say the team that makes the most free throws usually wins the game. Still others say the team that shoots the highest field goal percentage usually wins the game. From my experience, I say the team that scores the most points usually wins the game."

I am grateful that the person who asked the question was a good sport. But I believe the point was well taken. Basketball is a sport of scoring. And, obviously, the only opportunity to score is when your team has the ball. This issue focus on scoring; more specifically scoring through a motion offense.

BETTER SHOOTERS

A friend/Coach just emailed this to me and thought I would pass it forward. Some of our local guys that have a problem shooting should get this ? Seems like it has some credible testimonials.

The J-GLOVE SHOOTING AID, which was released about a year ago is currently be used (and testimonials) from high profile programs such as Louisville, Stanford, Boston College, Florida, Miami, LSU, as well as NBA teams such as the Miami Heat Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, and San Antonio Spurs. THE J-GLOVE (AND RELATED PRODUCTS) WILL BE ON SALE UNTIL DECEMBER 25TH! (website below)

www.jglove.com

[URL=http://1percentclub.org/JGloveTrailer.htm]

The J-Glove shooting aid has recently caught the basketball world by storm, with a patented FINGER SPLINT DESIGN that prevents finger flexion at the base of your finger joints. As a result, the design eliminates premature side-to-side wrist action during follow through, which is a major biomechanical flaw for the majority of amateur shooters. The J-Glove design also prevents the ball from every resting on the palm during shot set up, assuring the ball is perfectly balanced on each repetition. NOTHING ON THE MARKET CAN SET UP YOUR SHOT AND FINISH YOUR SHOT, MONEY BACK GUARANTEED!!!

I hope this may help as a resource for some local players. It looks like it is being sold all over the world and helping many players.

FALL COACHES SUMMIT BRINGS HALL OF FAME COACH TO FRESNO
X’s & O’s Basketball hosts Bob Hurley, Sr. for a basketball coaches clinic

Fresno, CA ? The 1st Annual Fall Coaches Summit, hosted by X’s & O’s Basketball, an organization which focuses on development of coaches and players in the United States and the Philippines, will take place on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 8am-5pm at the St. Anthony’s School Community Center. This year’s headline presenter for the Fall Coaches Summit is 2010 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Coach Bob Hurley, Sr., head coach of St. Anthony’s High School in Jersey City, New Jersey.

X’s & O’s Basketball has designed the Fall Coaches Summit as an annual gathering of basketball coaches of boys and girls teams at all levels throughout California, and specifically the Central Valley, in which colleagues can have a quality forum to network and participate in professional development with the best basketball minds currently in the game. Net proceeds from the Fall Coaches Summit will benefit the St. Anthony’s School Boys and Girls Basketball Programs (grades 5-8).

The Fall Coaches Summit will also feature several coaches with strong ties to the Central Valley, including Adrian Wiggins (Head Coach, Fresno State University Women’s Basketball Team), Wil Hooker (Assistant Coach, Fresno Pacific University Men’s Basketball Team), Dave Severns (Director of Player Development, Los Angeles Clippers/NBA), and Peter Sharkey (noted international skill development coach, Hoover High School).

The early registration fee for the Fall Coaches Summit is $60.00, which includes lunch and giveaways. Onsite registration the day of the event is $75.00. Interactive events planned for the day-long event will include a raffle, on-site access to local athletic apparel and equipment vendors, and the “Ask the Coach” special session with Coach Wiggins.

New NCAA rule for girls teams effective soon

In April 2010, legislation was adopted that would require women’s teams participating in an NCAA-certified event to meet the same residency restrictions that have applied to the men’s teams since 2005. The effective date of the legislation is September 1, 2010. In that regard, fall 2010 events will be required to apply the legislation when allowing teams to participate in those events. This means that all teams participating in NCAA-certified fall events must be made up of individuals that reside either within the same state as the team’s official address or within a geographically adjoining state AND with not more than three prospects from adjoining states participating on any one team.

Additional information about this requirement can be found by clicking on the link below:
