Upcoming Games

projection: Beverly Hills (CA) 28-21
Fri 10/30 Hawthorne (3-5, 3-0) at Culver City (4-4, 1-2), 7:00pm
projection: Culver City (CA) 44-21
Fri 10/30 El Segundo (7-1, 2-1) at Lawndale (7-1, 3-0), 7:00pm
projection: Lawndale (CA) 35-20

Two big games this week. El Segundo vs Lawndale should have been for the outright league championship but Hawthorne muddied the outcome by shocking El Segundo 23-14 last week. Now ES is in survival mode. Another loss would have them teetering on missing the playoffs and putting their fate in the hands of the CIF selection committee for the playoffs. The status of the El Segundo starting QB is not known by this writer and if he is out, it will be difficult to achieve a victory against QB Chris Murray and Lawndale. I would call Murray the league MVP if I was voting. ES will still have the 2ncd most talented player in the league in RB Taz Tauese, but without a real QB to keep the focus off of him, it would be difficult to get a win.
Hawthorne vs Culver City should have been for third place but Hawthorne has a chance to seal up a 2cnd place finish with a victory over CC. Culver is probably the most dangerous (4-4, 1-2) team in the Western division but will have to depend on another solid game from their back-up QB Bryce Lewis-Wolfe. He has an outstanding supporting cast and that should help him. If CC does not turn over the ball 6 times like El Segundo did against Hawthorne, they should have a good shot at winning the game.
Past years would have had the Santa Monica vs Beverly Hills game as another SM crushing of BH, but not this year. SM is suffering without a legitimate QB and BH is actually favored by computer projection. Still some good athletes on SM and they could pull it out. It should be exciting for both teams to be in a game they feel they can win.
