Southwestern defeats Palomar 34-28 in junior college football

By David A.Willauer-Contributing Writer-Escondido High School-Chick Embry Field-Escondido, CA:The Southwestern Jaguars opened up the 2016 junior college football season as qb Joe Hudson 35 completions out of 53 yards for 318 yards threw 3 touchdown passes of 20 yards to wide receiver to Ryan Stokes, (2 receptions out of 75 yards) 20 yards to Jon Mondy (7 receptions for 65 yards) and 2 yards to Marquis Williams 11 receptions for 111 yards as they defeated the Comets of Palomar College by a 34-28 score. Demetrius Gibbs ran a 46 yards interception and teammate Geremiah Satalie 10 carries for 37 yards contributed on a 2 yard run.

Palomar and Former Oceanside High product Josh Bernard: "We felt all right even though we lost but our offense line picked the rest of our team up they blocked well for us and we blended together, in the first half our backs are against the wall and we have to keep battling right to the end." I have faith in our squad and we showed good signs and practices well everyday situation." Joe Early is our boss whatever he says we are going to execute the game plan everyday in practice and at game time."

Former Oceanside High and current Palomar starting quarterback Matt Romero as he threw the ball 23 times out of 44 attempts for 307 yards along with 4 touchdown passes 1 to former Oceanside High product Josh Bernard (9 receptions for 102 yards) 1 touchdown run for 26 yards, 30 yards to Robert Ursua (2 receptions for 44 yards), Lamont Chaney 4 receptions for 91 yards scored in touchdown run of 76 yards Jordan Morris 14 carries for 45 yards in rushing and 3 receptions for 16 yards scored on a 10 yard touchdown run

With the loss the Comets fall to 0-1 and will host Santa Monica next Sunday at Escondido High School.
