The Northview Vikings (5-0), of Covina, in the Valle Vista League, are the new #1 rated team in Division 7. They beat Los Altos (2-3) 31-7 last Saturday. They also have an impressive 28-10 win against San Marino (4-1) earlier this season. The Vikings will clean up against the easy teams in the Valle Vista League the next couple of weeks before the competition gets more serious against Covina (3-1) and they finish off league play against their toughest league opponent San Dimas (3-1).

They should go undefeated on the regular season. The Vikings are led by a talented junior QB James Jiminez who 51 of 82 for 1191 yards and 18 TD's with just 2 interceptions. Jiminez also leads the team in rushing with 334 yards and 4 TD's.
They were on a bye this last week.
Northview eases into the start of Valle Vista League play this week with an easy one against Wilson (2-3) of Hacienda Heights.

The San Jacinto Tigers (5-0) of the Mountain Pass League dropped to #2 in the calpreps.com ratings after their 41-28 victory over Temecula Valley (3-1). The ratings must favor strength of schedule. Perhaps the prior week's 12-7 victory over Murrieta Mesa (2-2) played into the ratings. The Tigers should have it a little easier this week in their league opener at home against Beaumont (4-1). Only the 10/19 game against Citrus Hill (4-0), the league favorite, should present a significant obstacle. A second place finish locking in a playoff spot seems most likely.
The Tigers were on a bye last week. Beaumont is rated #3 in Div. 11, but, it is D-11. Beaumont projects to third place in League which would get them to the playoffs, but both league opponents Tahquitz (5-0), in D-12, and Hemet (3-2) in D-11 are closely rated to Beaumont so the battle for third place in the Mountain Pass should be an exciting & meaningful one for the rest of the regular season.

Culver City (4-1)
holds the #3 rating in Division 7 despite it's 36-37 loss to Palos Verdes (1-3). PV is rated #5 in Division 5 despite its current record. The Centaurs will host the Dorsey Dons (0-4) of LA City section Division 1. A few years ago, few would have picked the Centaurs as favorites over the Dons but the tables have seemed to change in the last couple of years and the Centaurs enter this contest as a substantial favorite. Don't let that 0-4 record by the Dons fool you though, they still possess some talent and have been playing tough competition in losses to Long Beach Poly, Alemany and San Diego Section Lincoln(5-0).
Culver City 42, Dorsey 0. See my post on Culver City & the Ocean League for details.

The Millikan Rams (3-2, 1-1) were rated #4 by calpreps.com after their annual drubbing at the hands of Long Beach Poly, this time, better than some prior years, was a 46-15 loss. They still project to be the second place finisher in the Moore League which will be good enough for playoff qualification. But the key league game stretch starts now against teams that they should beat starting with Lakewood (1-4, 1-1), then Compton (5-0, 1-0) and later Long Beach Wilson (3-3, 1-1). They would have to stumble against two of these three to put playoffs in jeopardy and that is highly unlikely. Compton is 4-0 due more to an easy schedule than their own talent, but will probably extend it to 5-0 this week and have an outside chance at securing a playoff spot in Division 10.
Millikan 28, Lakewood 24. Millikan dropped to #5 in the Calpreps.com ratings after the game against Lakewood (1-4), as the close margin is of concern with the most key opponent left in the Moore League, Compton, this week and Millikan is the visitor. A Ram win almost assures them of a guaranteed playoff spot, but a loss puts a lot of hopes, in jeopardy.

The Crescenta Valley Falcons (5-0, 2-0)
are rated #5, now #4 and got off to a successful league play start with their impressive 31-7 victory over Muir (3-1) of Pasadena. Muir might be their toughest league opponent although Burbank and Arcadia could present challenges as well, but the Falcons have already notched a victory in one of the more important league contests. The Falcons senior QB Cole Doyle was once again a one man wrecking crew on offense going 12 of 17 for 195 yards, 1 TD & 1 interception, but more impressively, 23 rushes for 154 yards and 2 TD's. Meanwhile the Falcon defense intercepted 3 Muir passes and held Muir scoreless until the 4th quarter. The Falcons should have an even easier game this Friday against Pasadena (3-1), a paper tiger, because they are 3-1 due to scheduling.
CV 47, Pasadena 28. The win almost locks the Falcons into a playoff spot. The Falcons face Burroughs(1-4, 1-1) of Burbank. A traditionally tough opponent who has seemed to fall on hard times this year.

The Citrus Valley Blackhawks (4-1) are ranked #6 & eeked out a tight 24-20 victory over Silverado (1-4) last week. A not particularly impressive victory over an opponent that they should probably win by more. This does not bode well for the Blackhawks in the tough Citrus Belt League. This week's contest at the Grand Terrace Titans could be a slighty tougher challenge than the game against Silverado, but a good challenge never the less. They will need to experience this competition as they will likely get to the last game of the season wondering if they can get the needed victory against Yucaipa (3-2), to get into the playoffs. Should the Blackhawks lose to Yucaipa, I think they will still be one of the first choices for a wild card playoff entry should one be available in D-7.
CV 28, Grand Terrace 21. The Blackhawks will open Citrus Belt League play on the road against Redlands (1-4) this week.

Warren (3-2) of Downey moves into the #7 spot after an exciting 47-46 victory over LaSerna (5-1) of Whittier. Warren should get an easy win over Lynwood (0-3-1) to start their San Gabriel Valley League play. While they will struggle to beat Paramount (1-4) or Downey (2-3), they should be able to secure wins against Gahr & Dominguez which should lock up a third place finish in League and a Division 7 playoff spot.

#7 is the Valencia Tigers (4-1) of Placentia. They won handily, 35-14, against a weak Santa Fe (0-5) team. They start Empire League play next week and should have it fairly easy the rest of the way starting with Crean Lutheran (4-1) in two weeks. Pacifica (2-3) of Garden Grove, #13 in Division 7, is the next toughest in the Empire League but should not present much trouble. Both of these Empire League teams should have their football season extended into the playoffs in D-7.
Both D-7 Empire League teams were on a bye this week. Valencia dropped to #9 despite being on a bye. This weeks game is a Thursday night game which should be easily winnable for the Tigers despite matching records with their opponent. Pacifica projects to a second place finish in the 6 team Empire League, a bit tenuously. They face Cypress (2-3) this week in a key match-up.

#8 was the Sunny Hills Lancers (4-1) of Fullerton. They had a dominating 41-0 win over Kennedy (2-3) of La Palma last week. They have a very winnable game this week against Trabuco Hills (1-4), then start into Freeway League play that should see them finish in second behind La Habra (1-4) and guarantee them a playoff entry in D-7.
Sunny Hills 61, Trabuco Hills 38. The Lancers are now rated the #7 team in D-7. It will be a super easy game against Buena Park (2-3) this week.

#9 are the Notre Dame Titans (4-1) of Riverside. They lost 31-17 to a good Aquinas (4-1) squad last week. They are on a bye this week, awaiting Paloma Valley (2-2) on 9/28. The Titans play in the 4 team Sunbelt league but, fortunately for them, they look like the big dogs in their league and should also be a lock to make the playoffs. They dropped to #10 in the calpreps.com ratings despite being on a bye.

#10 are the Santa Barbara Dons (3-2). They lost to St. Bonaventure (4-1), 28-13, then lost to quickly rising Pacifica (4-0) of Oxnard. The Dons have a bye this week before starting Channel League play that should see them finish 2nd or third and earn a guaranteed playoff berth in D-7. The Dons dropped to #11 while they were on a bye. The Dons should get an easy win this week against San Marcos (1-4) in their Channel League opener.
