Cathedral Catholic wins CIF Title in win over Helix

Willauer-Contributing Writer-In a see saw battle Open Division CIF Open Division Final, the undefeated Dons of Cathedral Catholic at 13-0, known for their offensive trickery of running and passing came back from a 14-0 deficit as they scored 14 points in the second quarter and 21 points in the third quarter as they defeated the Highlanders of Helix High School at 10-3 by a 35-27 score.

Sean Doyle on the win: "We came out and played a heck of a football team, Helix is a good squad our defense got stops on then that they needed to along with our offense, after the first couple of series they got themselves under control moved the ball well down 14-0 we did too much on the bootleg by Tate Haynes my qb that he threw the interception then he decided to do a lot of running with his legs he saw the receiver made the catch for the win."

"Running back Sean Poma is unreal and our offensive line did a good job opening up the holes for him and my Quarterback Tate Haynes has committed to Boston College makes things happen and will help the Eagles a lot when he graduates." said Coach Doyle

For Cathedral Catholic in the win Adam Eastwood carried the ball 20 times for 124 yards scored touchdown runs of 5 and 22 yards, qb Tate Haynes who committed to Boston College carried the ball 15 times to 119 yards scored touchdown runs of 2 and 58 yards passed 5 completions out of 7 attempts for 51 yards, Shawn Poma 12 carries for 161 yards scored touchdown run of 22 and 41 yards,

For the Highlanders of Helix Scott Young 4 carries for 18 yards scored 1 touchdown run of 5. Carson Baker passed the ball 24 completions out of 38 attempts for 308 yards and threw 2 touchdown passes of Rashad Scott (5 receptions for 33 yards) for 11 yards and 1 touchdown pass of 4 yards.

These 2 schools met the previous time at Cathedral Catholic on September 19th where the Dons won 35-17. This is Coach Doyle second time that Cathedral Catholic finished undefeated and wins their 11th CIF Section Title and will host Narbonne High School in a CIF State Playoff Open Division Semi Final Game.
