Moorpark 17 Palomar 16 First game at Palomar College Stadium on campus

Kadyn Parr 5 yard winning pass to Ryan Johnson sparks Moorpark in win

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-Saturday, September 7th, 2024-Palomar Stadium-Palomar College -San Marcos, CA-When Palomar was founded in February of 1946, the football team had played home games at various high schools throughout the North County area.

For the first time in the 47 years, the football team finally played their first actual home game at the football stadium on the campus of Palomar College things went in a different direction as the Comets were defeated by the Falcons of Moorpark 17-16 score

William Struyk connected on a 45 yard field to put Moorhead up 3-0. The Comets came back as Quincy Herron, 15 yards receiving, caught a 6 yard pass from KJ Chatham 88 yards passing, and John Meyers connected with 3 field goals 47, 32 and 21 yards led 16-3.

Moorpark struck with 2 more touchdowns in the 4th quarter as Savion Covington scored in the end zone and teammates Kadyn Parr 32 yards passing, threw a 5 yard pass to Ryan Johnson with the PAT's by Will Struyk with the final score 17-16 in favor of Moorpark

Joe Early Palomar Head Football Coach: "I felt that we got complete control of this game with eight minutes in the fourth quarter our defense gave up too many points as we missed field goals and couldn't score in the Red Zone, we should have had 28 points in the first half but I keep telling my squad there's a fine line for winning and losing."

As we led 16-3, those 16 points should have been 32, it's very hard to score points when you get inside the red area so we can score more points on the board." "We can't settle for field goals all the time but we didn't do that, we have a long way to go as our guys were resilant."" I've been around this game a long time and I haven't seen a change of events like that, we had the momentum for 3 quarters in the 8 minute mark of the 4th, Moorpark got the turnover as we attempt to score the TD that changed things completely." said Coach Early

Palomar Stadium Firsts
First Kickoff Jonathan Jack Meyers 65 yards
First Coin Toss Palomar kickoff Moorpark receive
First Punt Jeremy Gamble punts for 31 yards for Moorpark
First Run From Scrimmage Kadyn Parr for Moorpark 15 yards. \
First Touchdown pass KJ Cheatham to Quincy Herron 12
First Penalty Oceanside 5 yards Illegal Shift
First qb Sack Steve Artega for Palomar
First Fumble Recovery Jadon Lemmons Moorpark 12 yard fumble recovery for TD
First Interception Tucker Murphy Palomar 0 yards run.
First Field Goal Will Struyk 45 yards for Moorpark

USC hosting SEVERAL top recruits today in hopes of cementing commitments and securing more. Here's how they stand with each.

New update on the recruitment of SF Nik Khamenia (Harvard-Westlake)

Per Rob Cassidy, Rivals Basketball Recruiting Director:

UCLA, Duke, Arizona, and North Carolina are the players for Nic Khamenia, and it’s fair to wonder how the recruitments of Cameon Boozer and Koa Peat muddy the waters for the Blue Devils. Duke isn’t particularly likely to land Peat at this juncture, but will be in the hunt for Boozer until the very end … whenever that is.

If Boozer decides to attend Miami over his famous father’s alma mater, Jon Scheyer will turn up the heat on Khamenia. If not, the four-star power forward’s Oct. 3 visit to UCLA – the final trip on his schedule – could become absolutely massive, seeing as the Bruins are very much a heavyweight in this fight.

Arizona is de facto probably the leader in the clubhouse for now, having already hosted Khamenia for an official visit, but that could change quickly as he tours Duke, North Carolina and UCLA in the coming weeks.

In short, it’s too soon to make a real prediction, but the Bruins and Wildcats are worth watching very closely.

Week 1 Point Spread Results...Oline Is Where The Winning Is Done.

You can't win all the STARs without winning the first two weeks...So goes the theory of Frmr0lineguy...For the second week this season Frmr0lineguy sees his name atop our Standings...His 22 wins this week were just enough to deny Dave Keefer the chance at victory...It is his second STAR of the season.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

The favorites went 24-10 straight up again this week...Double that 24-10 from last week and they are 48-20 on the season...The points spreads changed 9 games...There was one tie (Victor Valley -7 Rialto* 22-15)...Meaning the Favorites fell to the Dogs this week 15-18-1...The favorites trail on the season 32-35-1.

[Updated- State CIF makes changes] The new state rule on air quality complicates practices as the season nears

In October last year, the CIF implemented a rule that prohibits outdoor sports practices and games when the Air Quality Index (AQI) is above 150. In the Santa Clarita Valley, schools have been scrambling for practicing times.

Some football teams are going to have to figure out scheduling ideas for practices because of new state rule on air quality. With classes starting, the options will be either real early before school or early evening.
