Gym Rentals in Today's climate

Some thoughts on Gym Rentals.

My experience at LA Harbor College, with our Athletic Director, was probably the best one I could ask for. This is what we set up.

1. I was the Gym Rental guy representing our school.

2. I had 2 million dollar liability and 1 million medical coverage (all sports programs paid a portion of the $550 fee). Our gym fee was $75 per hour. $60 for gym and $15 for supervision (read below).

3. Anyone that needed community gym time called me. I kept a master calendar, went to all sports programs with what they wanted in gym time in quarters (3 mos) at a time.

If you wanted an outside group to use the gym, they could piggyback on our gym insurance or provide their own. You also had to have a "supervisor" there. At first the school didn't want to pay gym supervisor, then I had them get $15 per hour, they had to open and close. We cleaned up ourselves and the Custodial Union got involved. So, we negotiated 1 hour of Custodial for every 8 hours of gym usage (an added fee to end users). So, you can see there is always people with there hands out at every school.

Also, I negotiated a 15% fee for my time (a lot) the school got 35% (they received zero before) and the College program that used it as a fund raiser got 50%. Before the school wanted $150 per hour, no one ever used the gym. In the first year we raised almost $18,000, everyone seemed to be happy. The local YMCA's, Boy's Clubs, etc. all got gym time. It was used 6 nights out of 7 per week. The program in season got priority. We had a waiting list of high schools, travel teams (volleyball and basketball). The program that hosted the event got to run a snack bar.

It's amazing how much can happen when adminstrations, coaches, programs and when community's come together. Having kids playing sports, in local gyms, should be the goal of every school and community. Yet it is a mess! More graffitii, more crime, more everything. Keep em tired and in the gyms I say.

POTENTIAL OPEN SPOT FOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE FOR GRT TRAINING

I just had a spot potentially open up part time this summer in our Green Room Training Program. The GRT Program is mostly for NBA, Overseas Professionals college, Elite HS players, and sometimes aspiring high school players to reach their potential.

The program runs all summer, monday-friday (no weekends). It consists of court position workouts in the morning (usually 10am-noon) in Santa Rosa. The price is $750 per week (non-negotiable). The workouts are very intense, however, with heavy skill teaching focus, and focused shooting reps. We have had tremendous success over the years with our curriculum, however, it involves a full commitment or please do not inquire about a spot (at least a month minimum).

Throughout the summer, players will be training with NBA players like Josh Akognon (Dallas Mavericks), Overseas professionals, players that are working out for the upcoming NBA Draft, local college stars, Team USA Under 16s players, top 100 High school players, as well aspiring players that just want to maximize their potential.

We keep numbers low but with the potential cancellation of a player, we should have some weeks opening up. Also, we have multiple levels of housing and personal chef accomodations, varying from 4-Star housing, to 2-3 Star housing. Please email Jeremy@greenroomtraining.net or call (707) 849-1212 for more info.

Icemen Ryan Smith, 6'11, 2013 signs with Tulane University

Congratulations
are in order for Ryan Smith, 6'11, 2013 (Cal Lutheran HS) as he decided today to
sign with Tulane University. Many schools including Davidson (today), Colorado
State, and a few others in the mix. I think the upside on this young man is
incredible. One of my all time favorite Icemen kids. Worked on everything I told
him to and realized early that you have to put in the work to get the reward.
Playing in the Top Events, working on his Daily Drills, getting stronger,
listening to any coach that told him something. Because of young men like him I
ended up continuing coaching this year (really thought about stopping this
year).

A
side note to Coaches...Man, Don't ever give up on your Big Boys! Bigs take
longer. We have all been guilty of it! Play the big boys early (Frosh/Soph) and
live with their limitations, the Rewards are there if your willing to invest.
Last year no one knew who Ryan was, it Literally all started to come together
this year. They don't get better on the bench. What a terrific
relationship Coach Dave Peter (Cal Lutheran HS) and I have. Amazing how much can
get done when No one takes the credit, No one had an ego, No one worried about
anything but the player.

Sincerely,

Coach
Malecki

Looking for players

Wentworth Military College reinstated their basketball program in 2011-12 after a long absence. During that first season, as you can imagine, Wentworth finished last in NJCAA Region 16 (D-2). During the inaugural campaign the Red Dragons finished 4-19 and 0-6 in Region play.

What a difference a year makes. The Red Dragons set school records for wins in a season, fewest losses in a season, and were Region 16 NJCAA Co-Champions, going from Worst to First[/B]. The Red Dragons broke into the NJCAA Top 20 ? among the "Elite" programs in the Nation. Finishing the season with a record of 19-9, Wentworth plans to build off the success of the just completed campaign.

The Red Dragons are in need of a point guard, a shooting guard, and a dominating "big" man. We will be replacing three starters and the top two spots off the bench. The players we recruit MUST have the ability to come in and immediately compete for the starting position as they will be replacing a 2nd Team All-American and a 1st Team All-Region 16 player. Our 2012-13 team set the bar on who were are. In order to get to the next level we need young men who can get it done.

Where is Wentworth located?[/B] Wentworth is located in Lexington, MO, just forty-five minutes from downtown Kansas City. One of the oldest two-year colleges west of the Mississippi, Wentworth Military College was founded in 1923.

Attached is our link to our Prospective Player profile. If you have the ability and desire to play on the college level with a Nationally ranked program (both the NJCAA and the USCAA), please fill out the link and get it back to me as soon as possible.
