Gordon Commits To Arizona



Archbishop Mitty of San Jose 5 star forward Aaron Gordon announced at the McDonalds All American Game Media Day on Tuesday Morning he will head to Arizona in the fall. Gordon joins a Concord De La Salle guard Elliot Pitts and Philadelphia McDonalds All American Rondae Jefferson in Tucson.



This is the 3rd consecutive year the Wildcats have landed the best player in California by Rivals.com as they landed La Verne Lutheran's Grant Jerrett in the class of 2012, Sacramento's Josiah Turner in 2011. It also continues a strong pipeline with the Oakland Soldiers AAU Team, as they have landed Turner and Nick Johnson in 2011, Brandon Ashley in 2012, and with the addition of Gordon in 2013 are in strong position with fellow Soldiers, 2014 5 star Stanley Johnson of Mater Dei and 2015 unanimous top player Ivan Rabb of Bishop O'Dowd in Oakland.



Gordon will likely be the starting small forward on a top 10 team next season. As his jump shot and perimeter game improves, the sky is the limit for Gordon who has a chance to be one and done next year.

Some thoughts on Society and Hoops.

The fact that you're a total failure as a program unless you win a HS, NCAA Championship has driven basketball to a very dangerous and slippery slope. The graduation rate, winning %, and the way a program is run is secondary to winning. Bloated Alumni with $, TV, and Athletic Directors have become the Architechs, the example setters of what Basketball is and that hurts the game. The Coaches/Pillars of Basketball have become 2nd class citizens. They're told the game has passed them by. It's hard enough to adjust to college, yet kids are playing so many games a week on a TV game almost every night.

Don't talk about entitlement, talk about youth teams playing 100 games a year and not learning/working on fundamentals. Basketball mimics society. The fact you can get free shoes, free this, free that has corrupted a lot of players/coaches. The divide between halves and halve not's is wider then ever. Basically any Weasel can run travel basketball, coach High School or move up in basketball if they simply win. Forget about knowledge, credibility, etc. How can we have let this happen? Years ago you would've been "bowed and slammed to the floor". We wouldn't allow that to destroy this great game. I remember hearing a coach say about his friend (who had a great HS coaching record), He really envies coaches that have to coach, basically they had so much talent he didn't have to coach as hard as the rest of us. I said, "then stop cheating", that would even it up and get him back to the rest of us. Again, there is no penalty for acting a fool, cheating, playing older players against kids 4 years younger simply to win. I still do not understand why winning trumps integrity in our sport. How someone like Tubby Smith can be let go at Minnesota infuriates me!

Parents/Administrators/Coaches/Officials/Players we have come to a cross roads. What else will take place or could take place that would make you want to fix some of the issues hurting Basketball? I encourage your feedback.

Rivals.com recruiting analyst Alex Kline is reporting that that shooting guard Rex Pflueger is transferring from JSerra to Mater Dei.

2013 Southern California Hoop Review





The 10th annual Southern California Hoop Review will be held Saturday and Sunday April 13th and 14th at Next Level Sports Complex in Garden Grove from 9 am to 9 pm each day. It will be open to teams from high school and AAU programs and individual players in all high school grades (including seniors). 80 teams will be entered in the number one non-live period event on the west coast.





The event is designed to provide all players an opportunity to demonstrate their talents/skills in highly competitive games for the college coaches, scouts, and media expected to attend. A report on the event will be done by the Hoop Review scouting service that will be sent to college coaches and various internet sites.

Skill Training U coming back to Bay Area

Nationally Recognized Skill Development Trainer, Jeremy Russotti, is bringing back his Skill Training U event back to the Bay Area. Jeremy travels the world putting together Professional Development Skill Development clinics for various Countries, Federations, colleges, and for the public. Skill Training U is 14 hours of on court training, covering every facet of individual skill development. It also includes a 32-page curriculum syllabus that all participants receive. Says Jeremy, "all too often coaching clinics just focus on Xs and Os and mask the real reason your team isn't successful - Your players are just not skilled enough. Skill Training U will change any program once implemented within the first season/off-season. There is more info passed along for a coaches career in one weekend".

The local event will be in Solano County Area (Vallejo) April 27th-28th. Please visit our website for more details. Also, the event can be viewed LIVE or ON DEMAND via the internet (Web Streaming) for those that want to stay at home. We limit the event to 35 spots and currently have over 25 guaranteed spots taken by three different local AAU Teams. This event will sell out, just like our last event in the Bay Area.

The 4th annual Southern California Senior Showcase will be held Sunday March 24, 2013 at Cerritos College in Norwalk from 12 noon to 7:00 pm. It will be open to individual players and teams who are unsigned seniors in the class of 2013.


This exposure event is designed to provide all players an opportunity to demonstrate their talents/skills in highly competitive games for the college coaches, scouts, and media expected to attend. The brackets are out now, Dave linked them up in the thread below, a couple of observations:

North
Open:Modesto Christian/O'Dowd part 2, Bishop won by 9 in February. The semis should be crazy potentially Salesian/Sheldon rematch and top 5 players Ivan Rabb vs Aaron Gordon.
D1:2nd round potential rematch of 2 close league contests between Freedom and Deer Valley should be good.
D2:Sacramento is a dangerous team that potentially can do some damage, a date with Dublin in the semis is possible.
D3:El Cerrito is the best team in this bracket and is playing like it, to see them not in the finals would be surprising.
D4:Soquel gave Mitty all they could handle in the first round of the playoffs, they have a chance to potentially meet Riordan in the regional finals.

South
Open: Wow Poly/Bosco part 2 on Friday with the winner likely getting Mater Dei on Tuesday, Poly won by 6 last time on February 2nd. That side of the bracket is loaded.
D1: I agree with Eric Sondheimer, I can see Loyola winning this side of the bracket, I think they are the best team in that division.
D2:Jw North has looked good all year, this could be there year as potentially Reggie Morris' Redondo Union squad looks favorable, I know thats 1/2 chalk seeds.
D3:I can see the bottom side of the bracket winning this bracket, Compton is young and good and as is Chaminade has a nice balance of senior guards and younger bigs.
D4ac Hills gets a horrible draw, they had an argument to go into the Open Division and they get the 5 seed in D4. I can see them beating Serra next Tuesday night.

We covered the final day of the West Coast Prep Championships at Cathedral high school on Sunday and saw a familiar face playing for Los Angeles College Prep in the third place game. Norvel Pelle played well and is apparently still waiting for academic clearance to play at Iona. He had 16 points and added 10 rebounds, 7
blocked shots and 3 steals in a win over Middlebrooks Academy.

Tryouts for the California Storm Girls Elite Nike organization. California Storm, a leader in player development and college placement, will be conducting tryouts to evaluate candidates for the California Storm and Team Taurasi Elite travel... teams.
CLUB HISTORY
The California Storm Basketball Club was founded in 1997 and since 1998 has been one of just 24 girl's elite Nike-sponsored club basketball programs in the United States. On January 1, 2009, the Storm became the first girls' basketball club in history to be affiliated with a professional athlete. The Storm's most elite travel team became Team Taurasi, sponsored by six-time WNBA All-Star & U.S. Olympian Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury. California Storm and Team Taurasi players wear signature Nike apparel specifically designed by Nike and approved by Diana.
... TRYOUTS SERIES
Tryouts will be held on Saturday and Sundays March 9, 10, 16, & 17, 2013. Tryouts are open to players from ages 12 ? 18. Players will take part in a series of skills evaluations & compettive drills to determine proper roster placement to represent the Storm.

THE BEST COMPETITION & EXPOSURE
The Storm's schedule is the most competitive in the United States. Our primary focus is to compete in the four major regions of the country. The Boo Williams Nike Invitational (Hampton, VA), The Nike Summer Showcase (Chicago, IL), and Nike Nationals (North Augusta, SC) are the three most competitive and best attended NCAA-certified events in the nation.
NIKE NATIONALS
Since 2008, The California Storm has been one of just 16 teams in America to receive an automatic bid to the Nike Nationals in North Augusta, South Carolina. Nike Nationals, the only summer girls' basketball event wholly owned and operated by Nike Elite Youth Basketball, is the premier girls' travel team tournament in the country. The event showcases 24 Elite Nike 17U travel teams along with 16 of the nation's premier Elite 15U teams. Nike Nationals is recognized as the most exclusive and competitive event in the Nation.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
We prepare our young athletes to compete at their highest level by teaching them skills that are integral to properly transition to collegiate and professional levels; we are confident that we provide training and development at a level that few other clubs in the nation can match. We pride our organization on assisting players through fundamental, high level instruction and a personalized approach that helps each student athlete achieve her unique potential.

What comes after the San Diego Section Division IV Championship? Is there a Southern California regional playoff, or does it go directly to an all-California playoff? Where can I find brackets, box-scores, game dates, etc.?

I am particularly interested in following the boys team from Army-Navy Academy in Carlsbad.
