I just found out about your recent removal as coach at Quartz Hill HS. I am dumbfounded and angry. You have shown CLASS, Dedication and work harder then many coaches I know. Your support and distance your staff drove to my Coaching Clinics and showcases were proof enough for me. We have area coaches that can't get off the couch and come 2 miles, yet you drove 100 both ways. I have never heard a coach utter anything but kind words about you and most importantly they respect you. Unfortunately in today's GLAM THRILL A MINUTE coaching world your administration found a better fit. Laughable. I for one would want my son or any kid for that matter to play for you. If the parents had anything to do with what happened they should be ashamed. I really hope that isn't the case. There are so many narrow minded administrations with zero coaching experience, or sports background. That is why I believe that Basketball in California is broken. We need great people and coaches like you to be teaching/mentoring our young people. This is something I am puzzled and upset about. I hope you can come up with a resolution or have legal recourse. Just wanted to express our appreciation for your help and expertise. Greg's high school basketball experience was extremely frustrating for him and us! By the end of his senior year, he was done with basketball and never wanted to play organized ball again. You were able to see the talent he possessed and helped him to learn to love the game again. For that we are ever grateful!
For anyone who may be wondering if the Icemen program and Coach Malecki are worth your time, it is. Coach Malecki knows what he is talking about with youth and basketball. He cares about the kids and making sure that they work to their potential. He talked to the coaches at Palomar JC about our son Greg and encouraged them to give him a chance even though he started out with a bad attitude about organized ball after a horrible high school experience. Greg is slated to play on scholarship for the Division II Cal State Monterey Bay Otters this upcoming season thanks to some help from Coach Malecki. Our 2 younger boys have learned a lot from the time they have spent working with Coach Malecki through his youth development programs and hope to transition into the Icemen program as soon as they are old enough. Coach Malecki knows EVERYONE within the world of basketball and is continually learning and developing and encouraging his kids to do the same. We would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn the real game of basketball and develop into the best player that they can be. Keep up the good work Todd!

The travel basketball scene/process is an interesting one for all parties and it pains me when kids are taken advantage of by those with less than honest intentions. In my observation, you are the absolute opposite. You want the best for the young men you work with and bust your tail to ensure that happens. In a time when we can be consumed with "getting" a player, the reason why we should be in this is often lost-to build meaningful relationships and mentor young men towards a productive future.

My son Joe was a member of the IceMen Basketball Club for 2 years while he was participating in the Loyola High School basketball program, and during that time, I saw him improve in his overall fundamental skills and confidence.
I was especially impressed with Coach Todd Malecki's philosophy of emphasizing individual improvement within the team concept. In so many club endeavors today, players are simply looking to be the star or improve at the expense of the team, but that wasn't so with the IceMen.
My son has since graduated from Loyola after being a varsity member for 2 years on 2 highly recognized and successful teams. During his junior year, Loyola was the CIF Division II Quarterfinalists, and last year he became a starter and captain on Loyola's Mission League Champion & CIF Division II Semifinalist squad. Most recently, he was a walk-on candidate for the basketball team at Boston College. I am convinced that a great deal of his personal success within Loyola's team framework was honed while he played for the IceMen.
I can honestly say that during my 18 years as the Varsity Basketball Coach at Loyola, I would have definitely preferred all my players to participate in a club such as the IceMen, for I would have been assured that they were being drilled in fundamentals without having an ego stroked, and would have returned each year to our team having improved as both an individual and team player.

CIF Executive Director Roger Blake has sent a memo to the commissioners of the City Section, Southern Section and San Diego Section advising them that athletes cannot wear uniforms representing their schools while competing in out-of-season sports.

The crackdown has begun in fall basketball leagues, where players will not be allowed to wear any jerseys with their school names on it.
The decision is following Rule 500 in the CIF Bluebook, but Southern Section schools have rarely enforced the edict and the crackdown is expected to cause a pushback from schools and parents, because it will add additional expenses.
There's also disagreement whether the rule can be enforced. A private league where a school is competing in the off season could challenge the rule in court.
The bottom line is the CIF doesn't want teams representing their schools during their sport's off season. That has to do with liability and other concerns.

Excited to start working again with HS/Youth again (21st year). Helping youth (5-8th grade) is what I used to do when I was coaching collegiately. If your willing to work very hard and love hoops then I want you out there. Blessings, Coach Malecki

Okay.......Here's the deal: Todd Malecki is one of the very best BB TEACHERS of Fundamental BB at the Youth Level in Southern California.....PERIOD!! I can name possibly 5, that I have personally seen; who match; or come close. Thing is, those other 4 are "hired guns"; they don't run their own Camps or Clinics; which is a shame, actually. But Coach Malecki has been doing his thing for the past several years under the cloak of darkness and publicity (self promotion); yet he has placed nearly 100 kids/players onto the College level because they 'signed up' for his "events"; etc. I would not be promoting this dude; nor his Clinics or Camps unless I felt in my heart of heart, he IS any HS or Middle School player should attend one of his Camps or Clinics? I just wouldn't!! But his background in BB is so tight and right.......it goes with the territory. Icemem BB is a solid Organization and Coach Todd Malecki is a REAL and EXPERIENCED teacher and coach of the Game. This upcoming event? Solid!!!!

Providence boys basketball coach Ernest Baskerville has been named coach at La Salle High in Pasadena.

Baskerville coached at Providence for two seasons, leading the Pioneers to the Div. V-A final in 2012 behind then star freshman guard Marcus LoVett, Jr. Baskerville also has coached at L.A.C.E.S.
He takes over a Lancers team that features outstanding sophomores Vance Jackson and Milan Acquuah.
Events scheduled for Jan. 18 and 20 will now be held at La Salle, not Providence.

As reported elsewhere, Quartz Hill has decided to not retain Keith Bennett as boys basketball coach. Bennett wasn't happy about it and published a statement indicating he was blindsided and hoped the administration would reconsider. But a replacement has already been announced.

I talked to a source very close to the situation and the source said several parents seemed unhappy with Bennett. I also spoke to Jeffery McClendon's father and he said Jeffery will remain at Quartz Hill.

I received an email from Ollie Goulston, head coach of Hoover HS in San Diego, and he has decided to resign over disagreements with the administration. I have the impression he will seek another coaching position elsewhere.

Gearing up for an expected battle with Etiwanda and Corona Centennial for Inland Empire basketball supremacy, Rancho Cucamonga has added senior point guard Brian Beard, a transfer from Orange Lutheran who also previously played for La Verne Lutheran. He averaged nearly 10 points a game last season for the Lancers.

Standout junior guard Marcus Lovett Jr. has begun classes at San Gabriel Academy, his father, Marcus Sr., confirmed on Thursday.

Lovett, who played last season at Burbank Providence, was supposed to attend Orangewood Academy in Garden Grove, but his father said San Gabriel Academy was closer to where the family lives.

Lovett, who played at Burbank Providence, is considered one of the top guards in Southern California.

Longtime NBA coach Don Casey will be among the instructors at the Icemen Basketball Showcase camp Sunday (Aug. 11) at Wildomar Cal Lutheran, coach and coordinator Todd Malecki confirmed.
Casey, who started coaching high school in New Jeresey, was the head coach of both the Los Angeles Clippers and New Jersey Nets. He also served as an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls (1982-83) and Boston Celtics (1990-96). Before jumping to the NBA, Casey was the head coach at Temple University from 1973-82.
Malecki wrote on the Icemen Facebook page that Casey will serve as a "skills clinician" at the camp, which is designed for all incoming and current high school players.
The event is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will include instruction, competition and evaluations, which will be sent to colleges.
Cal Lutheran is located at 31970 Central Ave. in Wildomar.
Cost is $85 in advance, $90 at the door.

play football this year. He's going to focus on basketball to prepare himself for
