Friday's CIF-SS and City Section Quarterfinal playoff scores

Dave, just an observation this year. At all the games I went to watch the overall attendance was down everywhere. The question I have for CIFss, have the demographics in Southern California change so much now that football is on the decline? I think it’s a fair observation. Looking back CIFss football peaked somewhere between 2011-2019.
I haven't seen any attendence figures but my impression is that high school football is as popular as ever. I'm thinking maybe the rise of social media might be a major factor in game attendence. It's become easier and easier over recent years to stream games, get live updates, etc in real time. Fans can monitor several games at once by staying home. Just a thought.

Do you go to games in a specific region or all over?

Kai Brown's 3 touchdown runs of 11, 34 and 2 paces Carlsbad in 26-0 win over Rancho Bernardo in Division I quarter final contest

By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer

Friday, November 22, 2024-Carlsbad High School-Carlsbad, CA: In an anticipated Division I CIF San Diego Football Tournament Quarterfinal round before a capacity crowd looked on at Swede Krcmar Stadium Stadium on the campus of Carlsbad High School the opponent were the Broncos of Rancho Bernardo under 2nd year football coach Eric Weddle. His son Gage Weddle dazzled the crowd with his passing (144 yards) and running, (59 yards). Rancho Bernardo was defeated by the Lancers by a 26-0 score.

Kai Brown, a sophomore running back, started his 2nd varsity game for Carlsbad after being called up from the JV squad carried the ball for 174 yards, with touchdown runs of 11, 34 and 5 yards. QB Eli MacNeal threw for 77 yards. Jett Kenady (committed to Cal Berkeley for baseball) contributed on a 90-yard kickoff return for the other score.

Thadd MacNeill Head Football Coach at Carlsbad High School: "We had to contain Gage Weddle who is a very dynamic young player. We won the game for the most part as Kai Brown in his second week since our last game rushed for 195 yards against El Camino and he is going to be a good one. On the turnovers we got sloppy with the ball but our defense was outstanding in shutting out Rancho Bernardo."

"Jett Kenady, who currently plays baseball and is committed to Cal, looked for the right hole at the right time with the help of our blockers." said Coach Kenady

The Ducks got a commit that they had been expecting for a while, but I think what is interesting about the commit from Vander Ploog is who he has said in interviews that he wants to help recruit to Oregon to join him in this class'

Former Green Bay Packers and current Del Norte head football coach Nick Barnett "A great job by our defense they stepped up for, we didn't play the way we wanted to at the beginning, we found a way on how to pick up the win and we did."

"We keyed in on NIck Letulli as Oceanside has an excellent ballclub and we knew it was going to be a battle as I tell my guys if we go down we still have to fight and to keep going for us to win." "For us to play San Marcos next round we have to prepare ourselves like we do for every contest is to work hard

Del Norte will travel to San Marcos in a Division I quarter final game on Friday
