Willauer-Contributing Writer-Del Norte High School-9-9-23: In a battle of 2-1 teams the Hoover Cardinals from San Diego came up to Del Norte High School to take on the 2-1 Caimans from Classical Academy in Escondido the Caimans jumped out as tailback Justus Smith's 109 yards rushing scored on a 10 yard touchdown run with the PAT good. The Cardinals came within 7-6 as tailback sensation Sir Autry's 118 yards rushing and scored on a 7 yard run with the PAT no good.
Sir Autry scored his 2nd touchdown of the contest on a 41 yard pass from qb Kristian Noriega threw for 146 yards to go up 14-7. The Caimans came back within 14-10 as Leon Faulkner connected on a 35 yard field goal. The Cardinals widened the lead to 21-10 score as the amazing Sir Avery scored on a 38 yard run for his 3rd touchdown of the game.
Other Hoover performers in the game were Xavier Williams scored 2 touchdowns on a 47 interception return along with a 65 yard fumble recovery, quarterback Kristian Noriega threw 2 more touchdown passes (3 total in the game) Jesse Johnson of 50 and 37 yards before Thomas Weitzel scored on a 90 yard kickoff return to make the final score 49-17 in favor of the 3-1 Hoover Cardinals
