The #1 Northview Vikings (6-0) had an easy dominating 42-0 victory over lowly Wilson (2-4, 0-1) to open their Valle Vista League play. Next week could be even easier as they face Baldwin Park(1-5, 0-1)
calpreps.com projection: Northview (Covina, CA) 62-0

#2 the San Jacinto Tigers (6-0, 1-0) got a scare in their Mountain Pass League opener against Beaumont (4-2, 0-1). Beaumont took the lead at 16-14 in the third quarter and held it until about 7 minutes were left in the game when the Tigers scored a rushing TD and a 2pt conversion to win a close 22-16 game. Beaumont projects to finish 3rd in league although a couple of teams might have enough talent to challenge that projection.
calpreps.com projection: Citrus Hill (Perris, CA) 38-8

#3 Culver City (5-1, 1-0). See my other posts. The game that should decide the Ocean League championship is this Friday, at Lawndale (4-2, 1-0)
calpreps.com projection: Lawndale (CA) 35-34. And when it is this close, they say anything can happen.

#4 The Citrus Valley Blackhawks (5-1, 1-0) is the highest ranked team in Division 7 that might have a real possibility of missing the playoffs. They opened league play against their easiest league opponent, Redlands (1-5, 0-1), with a 47-13 win. Next they face the almost equally as bad as Redlands, the Carter Lions (1-5, 0-1) of Rialto.
calpreps.com projection: Citrus Valley (Redlands, CA) 34-12

#5 are the Crescenta Valley Falcons (6-0, 3-0) and they took care of business with a 28-7 win over Burroughs (1-5, 1-2). The Falcons face one their two biggest remaining challenges in league play as they travel to face the Burbank Bulldogs (3-3, 2-1).
calpreps.com projection: Crescenta Valley (La Crescenta, CA) 31-26. And when it is this close, they say anything can happen.

#6 in the calpreps.com ratings for the CIFss Division 7 is the Millikan Rams (4-2, 2-1). The
Rams got an important 25-22 victory over Moore League opponent Compton (5-1, 1-1). It was not an upset. Millikan was expected to win, but Compton kept it close.Millikan got out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter but Compton bounced back to take the lead at 14-10 with less than a minute left before the half. Compton would extend that lead to 22-10 with about 9 minutes to go in the third quarter on a 56 yard TD run by Niles Hibbert. The Rams senior RB Qu'Juan Campbell helped bring the score to 16-22 with less than a minute left in the third quarter. A successful pass for a 2 point conversion made it 18-22.

The Rams did not pull it out until under a minute remained in the contest and junior QB Qeanu Campbell-Caldwell tossed an 8 yard TD pass. The Ram kickoff team and the defense prevented any last minute heroics by Compton. Millikan has a bye this week. The Ram passing game was just barely effective enough but their defense and run game, amassing 210 yards on 33 carries, helped carry the day. It is unlikely that the Rams will fall any further than third place in the Moore League so they are almost a lock to be a playoff team.

#7 is the Valencia Tigers (3-3, 1-0) of Placentia. The Tigers easily beat Crean Lutheran (4-2, 0-1) by a score of 34-7. Next they take on the slightly tougher Tustin Tillers (2-4, 1-0) who project to be the third place team in the Tigers Empire League. A good win would do a lot to solidify the Tigers position as the Empire League favorites.
calpreps.com projection: Valencia (Placentia, CA) 31-10

#8 is the Warren Bears(4-2, 1-0) of Downey. They opened San Gabriel Valley League play with a 56-0 trouncing of league doormat, Lynwood (0-4-1, 0-1). The Bears have a tough one this week as they travel to face Paramount (2-4, 1-0). Paramount is the projected league favorite. Paramount easily handled the projected second place team, Downey (2-4, 0-1) by a score of 33-7 last week. Don't let those 4 losses fool you. Paramount has lost to St. John Bosco, Bishop Amat (just 21-6), Bakersfield and Venice. The Warren Bears do possess some pretty good offensive skills, hence the calpreps.com projection: Paramount (CA) 41-21

#9 is the Sunny Hills Lancers (5-1, 1-0) of Fullerton. They beat league doormat Buena Park (2-4, 0-1) by just 28-0 last week. The Lancers are projected to be the second place finisher in the Freeway League and unfortunately for them, they face the league favorites, the La Habra Highlanders (2-4, 1-0) this week.
calpreps.com projection: La Habra (CA) 41-14

#10 is the Notre Dame Titans(4-2) of Riverside. The Titans play in the 4 team Sunbelt League and league play, of which they are the favorites, has not started yet. They lost to Paloma Valley (4-2) last week 48-21. They are on the road against Valley View (2-4) of Moreno Valley this week. Valley View had a couple of monster seasons the last couple of years. but appears to be falling back a bit from the accomplishments the last couple of years. Calpreps.com is calling this one a little close. The projection: Notre Dame (Riverside, CA) 38-31

An interesting game for the 11th ranked Santa Barbara Dons(4-2, 1-0) in Division 7 this week. After an easy Channel League opening week victory over lowly San Marcos(1-5, 0-1), of Santa Barbara, the Dons face a tougher challenge in fellow Division 7 & Channel League opponent, the Santa Ynez Pirates(3-3, 0-1). The Pirates were beaten by league favorite, Lompoc(4-2, 1-0), 21-0 last week. The Pirates have not given up more than 21 points to any one opponent so far this season. This game may not end up being crucial to playoffs for either team but will figure in significantly when playoff position is determined. The Pirates are 15th ranked, in D-7, by calpreps.com and unless they beat either the Dons or Dos Pueblos(4-2, 1-0) they will have to apply as a wild card entrant. Calpreps.com projects a 24-12 Santa Barbara victory.

The #12 ranked Grand Terrace Titans(3-3, 1-0) have a much less interesting game than the Dons. After beating the lower echelon Sunkist League opponent Bloomington(1-5, 0-1) last week by a score of 49-0, they face the equally as bad Fontana(0-6, 0-1) this week in what is projected to be a 46-3 blowout in favor of the Titans. The Titans project to finish second in the Sunkist League but things will get tougher after this week even though they will still be favored against Colton(3-3, 1-0) and Summit(2-4, 0-1). Kaiser(5-1, 1-0) is the only team they project to lose to. It would take losing to all three of the last three teams mentioned to put a Titan Division 7 playoff entry in jeopardy, but that is not likely to happen.

The #13 Pacifica Mariners(4-3, 2-0) of Garden Grove have already notched their victory this week in a Thursday game against fellow Empire League opponent Crean Lutheran(4-3, 0-2), that was fully expected. The Mariners project to finish second in league and are well on their way to achieving that goal and a Division 7 playoff spot guarantee.

#14 is the Elsinore Tigers(3-3). They are in the 4 team Sunbelt League and have not yet started their league play. Unfortunately, they don't project to one of the 2 guaranteed playoff spots in league and have made their pre-league schedule too tough to get the necessary 5 wins to qualify for wild card entry. Playoffs will likely end up being contingent upon them beating Temescal Canyon(2-3) in the final game of the season. Temescal Canyon is favored in that contest, but not by so much that they could not pull off the upset.
