#1 The Culver City Centaurs (5-0) are again atop the CIFss Division 11 poll as well as the calpreps.com rankings. They escaped with a 30-27 victory over a Dorsey (0-5) team that is much better than their record indicates. The Centaurs open league play this week against undefeated El Segundo (5-0), the #5 team in the CIF-SS D-7 poll. This is THE Game of the week in the Ocean League and for D-11. How close could this game be? Calpreps is releasing their first week of projections and has it listed as a 34-33 Centaur victory.

#2 Arroyo (6-0, 2-0) of El Monte. The CIF-SS poll & the calpreps rankings match for the top 4 teams. Arroyo easily beat Rosemead (1-5) for their second league victory by a score of 35-6. It will not be quite as easy this week as Arroyo faces South El Monte (6-0, 2-0) in what should be the game for the Mission Valley League championship. Still, Calpreps projects Arroyo as heavy favorites. South RB Sal Tovar has 927 rushing yards in just 6 games with 16 TD's, but South has also shown an ability to throw the football when needed. It should should get much tougher though against Arroyo. Calpreps projects it as a 31-12 Arroyo victory.

#3 Arcadia (3-2, 2-0) has almost locked up its playoff spot with the 2 wins in the Pacific league against significant challengers including a 31-26 victory over Burroughs (2-2,1-1) of Burbank last week. The last significant challenge to second place is this week at home vs Burbank (3-2, 2-0). Arcadia relies heavily on their passing game led by QB Maximillian Davila. WR's Deonte Bevel and Rolandiss Whitener can both break loose. Burbank is well balanced between pass & run with QB Matthew Porras & mainly RB Darnell Williams. Calpreps projects it as a 21-14 Arcadia victory at home, but anything within 7 points on a projection means the opponent is capable of winning the game.

#4 Covina (4-1) had a bye last week. Covina will start Valle Vista League play this week, at home vs San Dimas (3-2), projected to be their second toughest opponent in league and they are also the second toughest team Covina has had to face so far this season and the toughest since since week 0 against Arroyo of El Monte. Covina has impressive offensive numbers with just over 1,000 yards each rushing and passing. Sophomore RB Erik Cuellar carries the rock for them most of the time with 839 yards in 5 game. Sophomore QB Nin Burns II throws it. Looks like this team might be very good for the next couple of years. San Dimas is a run first team with perhaps just enough ability to throw the ball to keep you honest.....maybe. While Covina is favored, calpreps projects it as a pretty close 35-27 Covina victory.

#5 is Segerstrom (4-1) of Santa Ana in the calpreps rankings & #6 if the CIFSS poll. They play in the tightly competitive Golden West League and start league play this week against Ocean View (4-1) of Huntington Beach. Segerstrom easily beat a soft Northwood (1-4) of Irvine last week 40-12. Not so easy this week. Ocean View with a slight run heavy tilt mostly by RB Noah De Loara with 752 yards in 5 games with 8 TD's, but QB Noah Hickman can also run it with 312 yards and 7 TD's to go along with his 737 yards passing for 8 TD's. This shouldn't be easy for Segerstrom but calpreps projects them as prevailing at home by a score of 31-20.

#5 Hillcrest (4-1) of Riverside is #5 in the CIF-SS poll & #7 in the calpreps rankings. They had a bye last week and open River Valley League play this week on the road at Ramona (3-2) of Riverside. Not sure who will be under center more for Hillcrest this week, junior Jalen Jefferson or senior Cordell Labrie. Perhaps they like to run Labrie out of a wildcat formation? And then they may still have the speedy Elijah Dominguez at RB. The Ramona run game looks solid with senior RB Isaiah Baker leading the way with 870 yards & 14 TD's in 5 games, but the passing game is a little suspect. Calpreps projects a fairly easy 44-22 victory for Hillcrest against what should be a 4th or 5th place team in league.
