The Ocean League favorites, the Lawndale Cardinals(3-2), suffered a 27-14 setback last week at the hands of Narbonne(3-3), probably the best team in the LA City Section. Lawndale has been facing very tough teams in three of their non-league contests. It should get somewhat easier for them in league play, starting with the easiest game of the year for the Cardinals against the Beverly Hills(2-3) Normans. Lawndale is rated as the 45th best team in the entire state of California.
The other game in the Ocean League will have the Hawthorne Cougars(3-2) hosting the El Segundo Eagles(3-2) in a key match up to establish a front runner in the battle for the last guaranteed playoff position, third place. The Eagles are substantial favorites over Hawthorne, but the Cougars may possess the ability to overcome some adversity. They do possess enough offensive talent to put up points. The Eagles dominated a weak South Torrance(0-5), 42-0 last week. Hawthorne lost a 51-50 barn-burner to Glenn(3-3) of Norwalk last week. Hawthorne has not scored less than 28 points in any one game this year, but El Segundo is the highest rated opponent they are facing so far this season.
