The Culver City Centaurs(3-1) have been playing some exciting football, win or lose. Against the Warren Bears(2-2) they pulled out a last minute 34-28 victory on a TD pass with seconds on the clock, from Zevi Echaus, to Kevin McGuire. Last Friday's contest was similar in that the contest was a battle throughout but the Centaurs came up short this time in a 36-37 loss to Palos Verdes(1-3) at PV. The Centaurs went with junior QB Nick Lucero instead of prior starter, sophomore Zevi Echaus. Reasons for the switch are unknown by this fan but the passing game did not seem to suffer as Lucero was 22 of 29 for 359 yards and apparently no interceptions, but the Centaur run game was a problem as they were only to able to generate 84 yards on the ground(after amassing 339 on the ground against Warren) and 48 of those came on 1 run by Joshua Ford. On the other side, PV struggled with the pass, doing perhaps just enough to get the victory behind their successful run game going for 227 yards on 47 carries. 27 of those carries were by junior Ryan Wilson who fought hard for 146 yards and 3 TD's. The Centaurs intercepted 3 PV passes and returned a fumble for a TD but still came up just short against a well regarded PV team. PV is not rated by the CIFss in Division 5 at this time, due to their record, but calpreps.com focuses less on record and has PV rated as the 5th best team in Division 5 right now. They are once again, the favorites to win the Bay League championship.
