Former Villanova alum John Olive leads Torrey Pines to first CIF Open Title in win over Foothills Christian

Willauer-Contributing Writer-RIMAC Arena-University of California at San Diego-2-23-19-For the first time since 2012 the Falcon of Torrey Pines known for their Boston Celtics style of play had won their first CIF Open Division Boys Basketball Title since 2012 and under former Villanova alum and current coach John Olive defeated the Knights of Foothills Christian by a 51-47 score.
John Olive Men's Basketball Coach at Torrey Pines High School: "We had worked so hard to put a lot of time into this season to see the kids play up to their level and have achieved their goal in win something like this." "Brad Leaf does a good job at Foothills Christian as he's guided them to various CIF titles along with being ranked in the state of California." "That is an incredible program that knows how to play." "The Pope twins have stepped up all season and have contributed for our squad."
Noah Viera led the Falcons with 16 points, 14 by Michael Pope and 11 by twin brother and University of Caifornia San Diego bound Bryce Pope
Foothills Christian was led by Derriek Carter Hollinger with 19 points and 13 by Yassine Gharran
With the win the Falcons improve to 25-6 and will be on the road on Tuesday, February 26 where they will be taking on the Trailblazers of Sierra Canyon while the Knights of Foothills Christian improves their record to 23-6 and will host El Camino Real on the same date.
