7th Annual College Evaluation and Recruiting Night, March 25th @ Lakeside HS

Hello Coach,

I know you're going WTH? Nothing from Malecki in years (almost 2) and now this. Well feeling better (about 80% of normal) and really recharged my batteries, plus, I missed it. I've got no teams, no hidden agenda's, no ulterior motives. I just want to do something to help out some Riverside kids. Partly that and my wife said you better do something or else. Lol. No, some National Juco's and a few 4 years asked me about players and I've been so out of the loop. I usually had readouts of each player I've seen, close to 200 per year, 120 games like clockwork. So this is why were doing it on a Friday cause no travel ball, and more than likely not interfering with high school or AAU plans.

I've got Lakeside HS on Friday, March 25th from 6-9pm. Brian Wethers, former Pro and Cal Alum (Murrieta Valley) is handling an 1.5 hour skill work session. After that we put them on teams and let them play. I'll have some coaches referee, but each player will get three (3) 20 minute games. That way they play hard and they keep the integrity on both sides of floor, so it's not bs.

Myself (Summer Pro Rookies-Pyramid, Pete Newell Big Man Camp Coach, Cal State LA Camp Cerritos College, La Harbor College, South Gate HS) and Darren French (Currently @ East LA, CS East Bay, Oregon, UCR, and 2 National Juco's) will be evaluating players. The seniors will play on one side and the underclassmen on the other. This is the same format we've used for years and gives me a good grasp of players abilities, coach ability, etc. We send out info on best players to about 135 colleges (D2, National Juco, JC, D3, Naia, if there good enough even D1's).

If you could be so kind to let your players know about it. Trying to keep it to around 50 kids total. A good number so teams will have about 8 on a team. Some of the focus is on how is there footwork? Balance? Stance? Shot Selection? Defensive abilities, Are they Coach able, Eye contact, etc.

I'm going to see if this might awaken my basketball DNA. I just really was so passionate about the game but became so disgusted to see how corruption, bad coaching, bad parenting, etc. has crept into the game on so many levels. I can't tell you after running a recruiting service for 4 years how disgusted I was at the whole thing. But believe me there are still great kids, coaches, and people in the game and we can't let the bad apples mess it all up.

If your playes come individually it's $60 on day of. If there 5 sign ups on a team, they can participate for $45 per player.

Please recharge your batteries and don't burn yourself out. Every day you coach, teach and correct a young player it pays off so much over time. Keep doing what you're doing. If you have any questions email or call me.

Blessings,
Coach Malecki

PS. Might get Ed Coyle (Chaparral HS) out of Retirement and help too.

Escondido Adventist Academy wins D V Sections Girls Title

By David A. Willauer-San Marcos High School-Thursday, March 3, 2016-San Marcos, CA: For the Division V Girls Basketball CIF Title The Lady Hawks from Escondido Adventist Academy at 23-4 behind the 16 point performance of Camille Chi, 14 by Chynna Cochran and 13 by Chloe Corcoran as they defeated the Lady Warriors from Rock Academy by a 52-31 score.

Escondido Adventist Academy Head Coach Mario Perez: "We played well today this was our second year that us and Rock Academy met as we lost by 13 or 14 points in last year's CIF Division V title, we bought 9 players back from that CIF runnerup team and being in this game was good for the kids." In the boys game before us our players weren't nervous." " Chyuna Copeland is one of the best players for us and has done well on the boards as she plays with 1 speed and this is the way she goes along with being the heart and soul of the team and good to see the way how she plays for us as she came out and performed the way she did tonight as we had confidence and our practices gave us the experience being hear from last year." "Camille Chi plays with confidence and takes the shots as needed as coaches we had to see if we had to make them shoot she went out and play with the passion and intensity runs the tempo for us." " Chloe Corcoran is the daughter of one of our coaches she played as she shot the ball well and did the duties on the offensive side of the boards and can do the damage on the boards."

For the Lady Warriors at 24-4 Zoe Nordling led with 11 points and received the Sportsmanship Award along with Allison Simmons for Escondido Charter.

A J Gates paces O Farrell Charter to CIFSDS D V Boys BasketballTitle

By David A. Willauer-San Marcos High School-San Marcos, CA-It was a repeat of last years Division V CIF Section final where the Tritons of Preuss School had won and defeated the Hawks of O Farrell Charter but this year it was a nip and tuck, faked in the popcorn machine, no harm, no foul a dribbling and a drabbling type contest but it took 3 overtimes to win as the Hawks of O Farrell Charter (23-6) behind the 22 performance of sr AJ Gates as they defeated the Preuss Titans by a 77-72 score.

O Farrell's AJ Gates on his performance: "After the second overtime as we had a three point lead and Preuss tied on a buzzer beater I said OH MY GOSH HOW DID HE MAKE IT I WANTED THE GAME TO BE OVER he dropped the ball and my team all played together but in the 3rd overtime we are a three point shooting team as we went to our inside game we did better on the boards and boxed out for the ball and we won in the regular periods weren't helping each other as a team but we worked hard and won I felt that my team deserves the win and they are the ones that needed this I enter my last year it feels like a dream and have never cried before this is our first CIF Division V Section Title in school history."

John Van Houten O Farrell Charter Boys Head Basketball Coach: "We made more key shots then the other team Preuss battled is well Tony Torrentino made a lot of good outside shots for them hats off to him he had a 20 point first half performance we made adjustments in the second half to make him to shoot righthanded he made some good free throws Derrick Carter played with 4 fouls in the 3rd quarter and didn't come out until the third overtime that was key for us to keep our composure he has a bright future for us game tied Carl DeLeon's 3 pointer I was thinking the basketball gods made us right here in San Marcos and the fans got their money's worth"

Garrett Carter contributed with 20 and Jordan Gaines with 10.

For the Tritans at 18-10, Tony Tolentino led with 31 points, Beniem Tesfamichael contributed with 13 and Carl DeLeon with 9

Sportsmanship Awards went to Brian Tran for Preuss and Thomas Mozee for O Farrell

Signing Day 2016

Signing day in Southern California is basically over, the local schools USC and UCLA both closed in big ways. USC got elite Long Beach Poly CB Jack Jones, while UCLA signed impact De La Salle DT Boss Tagaloa and the top player in California Mique Juarez a LB from North Torrance.

I'll have reports out later on the top players at each position in the area on O/D, and a Pac-12 recap with a look to the class of 2017.
