My son Luke was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was six years old.

He has not let it slow him down at all.

Eric Sondheimer did a story on Luke and his service dog Astro that will be online tomorrow, and in Fridays LA Times.

Here is the video that goes with the article.

Great video - where did Luke get his dog? Looking forward to the article; haven't spotted it online yet.

We got Astro from a breeder in Wisconsin.
Breeders usually give litters a temporary name with a theme.
Astro's litter was named after Green Bay Packers players.
His original name was Rodgers.........after the QB.

Canine Hope for Diabetes helped set it up, and they have also helped with his training.

Nice story Steel.

How many FGs did Luke kick? By the score (44-14) it looks like he could've kicked 3.

He kicked one..........his first and only attempt so far this year.
Going back to last season, he`s made 8 of his last 9 attempts.
His punting and kickoffs is were he has been excelling.
Some of his kickoffs have been 85 yarders.
Last night one hit the top of the uprights, and our uprights are pretty tall.

We scored six TD`s and one FG.
Luke let our JV kicker go in for the last PAT attempt, and it was his first time on the field in a varsity game.
It was a bad snap, but he alertly picked it up, ran right, and was stopped just short of the goal line.
He got cracked pretty good, but came off the field smiling.
Welcome to varsity!
