Per Rivals Ohio State writing staff:

Ohio State is still looking to round out its 2026 cornerback haul but Tim Walton and the Buckeyes aren't waiting around in the Class of 2027 and, to that end, offered Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) High School standout Havon Finney Jr. on Tuesday.

Finney, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound soon-to-be-junior, is an early five-star prospect according to Rivals.com and a top-five overall prospect in his class. He's a star in Southern California but he's got roots in the Midwest with family in Michigan and Ohio.

"There are ore Michigan fans [in his family] because I have more family there," Finney told Dotting the 'Eyes. "But I’m just blessed to have this Ohio State offer, as it means a lot to me. It's DBU..

"I haven’t been to the Midwest in a few years, but my family comes to California often. So I see this part of my family 3-4 times a year."

Finney's Ohio family—which is in Cleveland—should get to see him in the Midwest soon. There's a plan to make visits to both Michigan and Ohio State in the spring and he's looking forward to doing that so he can see up-close-and-personal how Tim Walton handles his position group. It was Walton who offered Finney on Tuesday.

"We've been talking for a while now," he said. "I've spoken with multiple coaches and they've been to my school. I’m familiar with Coach Tim Walton and he’s the person that offered me. I like the way he motivates his players, but I think I will get to see how he coaches his players better when I come out to the spring practices.

"I'm looking forward to visiting in March."

It's never too early to get involved with top-of-the-line prospects like Havon Finney and getting him on campus early, to experience everything that makes Ohio State a special place is pivotal if the Buckeyes want to be a player in his recruitment long term.
