I've been reading some of the latest news and picked up a few tidbits I wasn't aware of:
1. the Central Section voted along with the Southern Section last Wednesday so 10 more votes were added to those who favor the new rule.
2. 68 1/2 total votes are needed.
3. the San Diego, Los Angeles and Sac-Joaquin sections are also expected to vote for the new 30-day rule so it appears that it will certainly be passed.
4. the state CIF meets May 4-5 in Milpitas. The rule would take effect for the 2012-2013 school year.
5. there is some small print I wasn't aware of. This will not necessarily open the door to unlimited transfers. If a school accepts 3 or more transfers in one sport, section administrators can investigate and impose their own penalties, like postseason bans.
6. Part of the reason that some sections want to give this new rule a chance relates to cost-saving. More than $1 million per year is spent throughout the state in litigation costs related to transfer denials. Each case costs several hundred dollars.
