zero week Granada Hills vs Golden Valley
Not a great matchup but could be a competitive game.
Don't have any first hand knowledge on Granada Hills and only saw last weeks scrimmage by GV against Pasadena. I went to maxpreps for stats but it appears a lot of the stats for last season, for GV senior players is missing. Terry Tamura comes to mind easily. Don't know if something went down that they decided to penalize them with no stat coverage. GH does appear to have a full set of stats from last year and based on that, the success or failure for GH rests squarely on the shoulders of senior QB Ramon Johnson. But he has lost his top RB & 3 receivers to graduation. Even the head coach appears to be new and not much returning help on defense nor a promising group from JV. Having said that, Johnson did throw for almost 2,400 yards last year with 26 TD's and only 3 Int, 2 of them against GV in the first game of the season.
The GV Grizzlies might return a little more overall experience but I would not call them heavy in that department either. The coaching staff is new, but experienced. Dan Kelley was 9-2 overall, 6-0 in Arleta's modest city league last year. There are 22 seniors listed on the GV roster. I consider that a positive number for GV. I think this game could be a competitive match again like it was last year. The Grizzlies seemed to execute well but did not appear to be more physically talented than Pasadena in the scrimmage. The Grizzlies will have to play mistake free and create turnovers. I hope they can muster a pass rush. Being the homer that I am, I will take the Grizzlies by 7 points.
