Classical Academy defeats Calvin Christian 42-41 in Boys CIF Division V Basketball Title

Willauer-Contributing Writer-Carlsbad High School-Carlsbad, CA-2-27-20: In a battle of 2 Escondido Schools that split during the regular season as Calvin Christian won the first meeting 47-37 in the Caiman's home gym and for the second time Classical Academy won in the Crusaders place by a 43-38. For the first time the Caiman's of Classical Academy defeated the Crusaders by a 42-41 score on Max Brown's key foul shot near the end of the game as he scored 5 points in the contest to seal the win and the first CIF Division V title in school history. Luke Choi led Classical Academy at 21-8 with 12 points as he sank 4 three pointers in a row and teammate Presley Brightketter contributed with 9
Chris Williams head boys basketball coach at Classical Academy: "Calvin Christian was on a run near the end as Martin Gumwell made key plays for them, in the first half we capitalized well and held them to 41 points which is their average score per game." "Our defense played well and hard throughout the game as leading scorer Max Brown keyed in and never count him out as he keyed in on Gumwell."
