Ventura St. Bonaventure, Westlake Village Oaks Christian, La Verne Damien and Glendora St. Lucy's have won their arbitration cases against the CIF Southern Section and will remain in their current sports areas for the upcoming re-leaguing cycle from 2014-18.

It will force the Northern Area, Mt. SAC and parochial areas to meet again and start over their re-leaguing process. Those areas had already created new leagues without the four schools.

Southern Section Commissioner Rob Wigod has scheduled a special meeting of the Southern Section Council for June 10 to approve playoff groupings.

April 30 was the original day the Southern Section Council was scheduled to meet to approve final playoff groupings for 2014-2016. That day was thrown out after the Southern Section lost in arbitration to St. Bonaventure, Oaks Christian, Damien and St. Lucy's over where the schools would be placed for their sports teams.

Meanwhile, league representatives from the Mt. SAC Area, Northern Area and Parochial Area must put together new leagues.

The Southern Section office will post its recommendations for playoff groupings on May 20. Appeals will be heard on May 28. Then on June 10, representatives from the leagues will meet to finalize the groupings.

Of course, if anyone doesn't like the final groupings, they can always sue.

The cost of the tournament is $175.00 for varsity teams which will include a team BQQ for all participants on Friday night. We will also have a Big Man Competition. The cost will be $100.00 which will include 2 Days of events that will include 1 day at the beach and 1 day at Mission Prep. First games will start at 3:30 pm on Friday and 9:30 on Saturday. We are assembling the top passing teams from the Central Coast Section in the Bay area, the Central Valley, and Southern Section of CIF to compete in a high octane 7 on 7 passing tournament. You will be guaranteed 7 games in the 2-day tournament. Our format will consist of to brackets of pool play. We will try to have you not go against a team from your area unless you win your bracket. Championship T-shirts will be awarded to Passing Champions and Big Man Champions.

There will be a concession stand that will be in operation through out the tournament serving a variety of foods and beverages. Many teams have stayed on the beach at the Pismo Beach & Avila Beach Hot Springs campsites . We will also have group rates at some of our local hotels. They are 12 minutes from the campus.

The Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armour is the premier collection of free regional camps for elite high school athletes. Saturday is the camp at Fullerton College, which begins at 8:30, while Sunday's camp is at Chabot College in Hayward. Most of the top players in the West Coast will be in attendance at the camps this weekend, I'll have more of an exact player list later on this week.

Junior quarterback Josh Rosen of Bellflower St. John Bosco announced via Twitter on today that he will announce his college choice on March 20 in a campus news conference.

UCLA is considered the favorite.

2014 Southern California Senior Showcase[/B]

The 5th annual Southern California Senior Showcase will be held Sunday March 30, 2014 at Cerritos College in Norwalk from 12 noon to 7:00 pm. It will be open to individual players and teams who are unsigned seniors in the class of 2014.[/B]

This exposure event is designed to provide all players an opportunity to demonstrate their talents/skills in highly competitive games for the college coaches, scouts, and media expected to attend. A report on the event will be done by the Hoop Review scouting service that will be sent to college coaches and various internet sites.[/B]

THE PROCESS




What we do well is teach the game of
basketball and breakdown the fundamentals of position play and instill
advanced fundamentals into each players' respective game and incorporate the
team aspects of the game, so each individual has an understanding of what the
expectation level is and what college coaches will expect from them once a
player arrive's on a college campus. Having coached at the college level over
the last 15 years at DI, D2 and Junior College and I have been able to help
players understand what is important and what's not and it's the key in helping
players identify their strengths and working hard to improve their
weaknesses.




RECRUITING




Recruiting is the life and blood of a
college program and our network of coaches, scouts and basketball contacts
reaches around the country! We are in constant communication with college
coaches in the following Division I conferences around the country (Big West
Conference, Big Sky Conference, Mountain West Conference and Pac-12 Conference
to name a few and not to mention NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA
programs. We have helped over 150 student-athletes get scholarships and get
placed at universities and colleges around the country!

Blake Johnson of Los Alamitos is listed as the No. 1 punter from the class of 2015 from Chris Sailer's kicking group. No. 4 is Monrovia's Blake Cusick.

Chaminade's Ben Kreitenberg comes in at No. 9 among kickers. Westlake's Kevin Robledo is at No. 14.

Among Southern California long snappers, Servite's A.J. Carty ranks No. 1 from the class of 2015 after participating in Chris Rubio's Las Vegas camp. Other top local long snappers include Matt Foley of Temecula Valley, Ryan Simmons of Dana Hills and Richard Wilcox of El Dorado. Among the class of 2016, Damon Johnson of Glendora, Koby Walsh of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, John Aloma of Simi Valley and Conner Kirkegaard of Poway stood out.

Standouts Amaad Wainright and Rashid Ewing led Burbank Burroughs in scoring with Wainright routinely scoring north of 30 points. However, coach Adam Hochberg won't have the services of either player in the playoffs.
Burroughs opens Friday at Valencia (Placentia).
Wainright and Ewing both checked out of school late last week and returned to Kansas City. Hochberg mentioned academic concerns over graduating from Burroughs played a part in the departure.

Adam Guerra was introduced as the new football coach at Ventura St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon and wasted no time in getting to meet the players.


"There were lots of good, firm handshakes and eye contact," he said of his first impressions.
Guerra, 28, has been the head coach at St. Monica since 2011. He's married, has a one-year-old child and will be moving from Westchester to Ventura County. He teaches history.

Some St. Bonaventure boosters are already grumbling, because he doesn't have the resume of a Jon Mack or Todd Therrien, but he's a young, promising coach who in 2009 at the age of 24 served as the interim coach at Loyola, his alma mater.

He'll try to retain many of the assistants who worked for Therrien and interim Coach John Muller. He knows there are high expectations at St. Bonaventure.

Long Beach Poly, a 19-time Southern Section champion, introduced former Antonio Pierce as its new football coach on Thursday.


Let's just say there's skeptics whether Pierce, who has no coaching experience, was the best choice for a program that's considered almost every season to be one of the teams to beat in the Pac-5 Division.

For one, Pierce is going to continue as an Bristol, Conn., on occasion. He's supposed to have assistant coaches run the program when he's gone.

But Principal Joe Carlson said, "We wouldn't have hired him if we didn't think he was the right guy for the right position."

2014 Nor Cal Spring Showcase-NCAA certified event-April 25-27 (Friday to Sunday) in Sacramento



The 3rd annual Nor Cal Spring Showcase will be held Friday (6-10 pm) Saturday (9 am-9 pm) Sunday (9 am-4 pm) April 26-28, 2013 at Capital Christian High School and El Camino High School in Sacramento. The NIKE EYBL event will be held at Rancho Cordova Events Center and this event is being moved to Sacramento to be in close proximity to EYBL to attract more college coaches.



The event will be NCAA certified allowing Division I coaches to attend. Fifty teams from California and others areas will participate.

Judge Josephine L. Stanton has approved a joint stipulation to dismiss the federal lawsuit filed by Oaks Christian, St. Bonaventure, Damien and St. Lucy's against the Southern Section, according to a court filing on Wednesday.

It's an agreement where the schools and the Southern Section will take their disagreement to binding arbitration, according to individuals with knowledge of the situation but not authorized to speak on the matter. The hearing is set for March 4-5 in Los Angeles. Three separate decisions will be made affecting the four schools. Damien and St. Lucy's will be presenting their case together.

The schools filed the lawsuit in an attempt to prevent the Southern Section from moving the schools into the parochial area for sports leagues beginning with the 2014-15 school year.

If any of the schools win their arbitration hearing, a new releaguing phase will have to take place.
