Terry Eidson of De La Salle Interview on Youtube

I work M - F and in my free time I conduct sports interviews. I have partnered with a friend who was on the DLS football team that went down to Angels Stadium and beat Mater Dei in '98 thanks to Atari Callen. We are
just a couple guys that know about sports and want to talk to people that would enjoy being interviewed by us. Our first interview http://www.youtube.com/user/AlhambraValleyTV was with Terry Eidson, the longtime Defensive Coordinator at De La Salle. Learn about the early days of the program and that before the Game Stands Tall there was Cobra. It is not the greatest interview you will ever see but I think you will enjoy watching. If you have time I would appreciate your comments and suggestions on who to interview next.

Blake Barnett Committed to Alabama

Corona Santiago 4 star quarterback Blake Barnett verbally committed to Alabama today after de-committing from Notre Dame in the past few weeks. Oregon was the favorite but Barnett's recent visit to Bama sealed the deal.

Barnett's rise is pretty crazy, I loved him in the summer in a passing tournament then he put on a show against Upland in late September when he didn't have any offers yet before getting a ton and committing to Notre Dame by late October/November,

CIF-SS bombshell playoff announcement

Per Eric Sondheimer, L.A. Times:

In a message sent to member schools in the Southern Section, Commissioner Rob Wigod said on Tuesday that the section will explore a new format for divisional playoffs for all sports in placing schools individually based on performance and not place entire leagues into a specific division.
For example, in football, the Moore League, led by Long Beach Poly, has been in the Pac-5. But under the new format, only Poly would probably be in the Pac-5 based on performance, with the other schools likely getting relief.
No changes would take place before the 2016-2018 playoff grouping cycle, but if the Southern Section is able to pull it off, it could lead to much more balanced playoff competitions in football and other sports.
And if the changes had been in place for this past year, it's likely the Southern Section would have saved more than $100,000 in legal fees after being sued by St. Bonaventure, Oaks Christian, Damien and St. Lucy's when the section tried to move those schools out of their sports areas.
In other words, no more lawsuits and no more having to move schools because certain sports teams have become too good for a particular league.

The concept also would help bring together the best teams in certain divisions, similar to what basketball has done with its new Open Division.

First someone must come up with a formula or point system to group teams.

As Wigod said, "Stay tuned for updates."

High schools with the most NFL draft picks

California has 3 high schools that rank in the top 5 in the nation of number of players that have been picked in the NFL draft over the last 20 years.

Can you name them? Interestingly, Los Angeles Dorsey at #4 is ahead of a perennial state power.

The top California school is also the top one in the nation.

Some new rule changes for 2014-15

Players in marked lane spaces will be able to move into the lane when the ball is released by the free-throw shooter instead of waiting until the ball touches the rim or backboard under a prep basketball rule change approved for the 2014-15 season by the National Federation of State High School Assns.

In an effort to eliminate excessive contact on ball handlers outside the lane area, the following acts will constitute a foul: Placing two hands on the player; placing an extended arm bar on the player; placing and keeping a hand on the player; contacting the player more than once with the same hand or alternating hands.

The rules committee also expanded the definition of an intentional foul, which now states that an intentional foul is "excessive contact with an opponent while the ball is live or until an airbone shooter returns to the floor."

Another rule change involves anything worn on the arm and/or leg as a sleeve, except a knee brace. The items, including tights, will be permitted but must meet the color and logo restrictions in Rule 3-5-3. Previously, the rule permitted only arm sleeves and leg-compression sleeves.

CIF-SS to release new league alignments on May 20

The Southern Section is set to release its new playoff divisions in all sports on May 20. The big news will be made in football, where a revision is expected in the toughest division, the Pac-5.

The Big VIII League, led by Corona Centennial, is expected to be moved into the division. The South Coast League, led by Mission Viejo, is expected to leave the division.

Appeals will be heard and final approval will take place in June.

Appeal granted: new Serra League formed amidst more chaos

The Southern Section Council voted Wednesday to accept the appeal of Cathedral and created a new seven-team Serra League that will be made up of Alemany, Chaminade, Crespi, Notre Dame, Bishop Amat, Loyola and Gardena Serra for football only.

The Mission League will be Harvard-Westlake, La Salle, Salesian, Cathedral, St. Francis and St. Paul.

The Catholic Athletic Assn. had created two four-team leagues, but Cathedral was able to convince Council members that because of competitive equity, it did not belong in a four-team league made up of Loyola, Bishop Amat and Serra.

The decision is expected to anger CAA members who had voted consistently to have two four-team leagues. But the decision on Wednesday is final and lasts for four years.

"It's unbelievable," Serra Athletic Director Ted Dunlap said. "We're totally baffled."

The decision is expected to motivate CAA members to look for a response, but what recourse is available remains to be seen.

Schools will have to scramble to change football schedules.

Possible league changes: what to do with Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure

After a three-hour meeting, 51 schools from the Northern Area voted on Tuesday to approve a new three-league football proposal that attempts to settle once and for all what to do about St. Bonaventure and Oaks Christian. It received 31 votes to 20 for another proposal.

Beginning this fall, the Marmonte League for football only will be Oaks Christian, St. Bonaventure, Westlake and Moorpark. The Camino League will be Newbury Park, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks and Royal. The Canyon League will be Agoura, Simi Valley, Oak Park and Calabasas. After two years, relief will be given to the school that struggles most in the Marmonte under a point system, moving to the Camino League.

For nonfootball, the Marmonte League will be made up of Agoura, Calabasas, Newbury Park, Oaks Christian, Thousand Oaks and Westlake. The Camino League for nonfootball will be Camarillo, Moorpark, Oak Park, Royal and Simi Valley.

The proposal goes to the Southern Section Council on April 30 for final approval.

St. Bonaventure and Oaks Christian won an arbitration hearing against the Southern Section forcing the Northern Area to revise its leagues. Then last week, Newbury Park, Camarillo and Thousand Oaks won an appeal, requiring Tuesday's meeeting to vote again.
