West Valley Division Top 10 Week 3

What in the heck is going on here? Will there be any consistency?
7 teams from last weeks Top 10 were beat, including the Top 5.
Los(t) Al, #6 eked out a 1 point win, Tesoro rolled Upland, and Edison had a bye.
doesn't get any easier for a few of our Top 10 this week.
This division is taking a beating.

1. (9) Tesoro (2-1) Tesoro jumps up to the #1 spot this week after it rolled then #2 Upland on the road, 28-14. Will the Titans suffer a hangover this week or enjoy home town cooking? Next: West Covina (2-1)

2. (6) Los(t) Al (2-0) One of 3 undefeated teams left in the division, Los(t) Al defeated SD East Lake 17-1 6. Were the Griffins looking past E. Lake? We don't think so. Next: Canyon (Anaheim) (0-2)

3. (7) Edison (3-0) Bye week. After feasting on various Hostess brands,Edison will have had 2 weeks to prepare for Servite (2-1)

4. (nr) Chino Hills (2-1) CH beat up on Roosevelt 52-26. will they honor the lofty #4 ranking ? Next: Amat (2-1)

5. Upland (2) (2-1) Previous #2 Upland was beat at home by now #1 Tesoro 28-14 in the Prep Zone gme of the week? Overrated? isn't the entire divison so far? lets see how U Hi responds to adversity this week when it travels to Santa Ana. Next: Mater Dei (2-0)

6. (1) Vista Murrieta (1-1) VM goes on the road to Loomis and tanks, losing 22-15. Overrated, yes sir. If they lose this week, look out. Next: Lakewood (1-2)

7. (nr) Mission Viejo (1-2) MV gets in the win column after blowing out La Habra 49-20. Has the MV staff made the right adjustments? We didn't think the Diablos were as bad as their 0-2 record may suggest. Next: @ Norco (1-1)

8. (3) Valencia (1-1) After an easy opening win over Palmdale, the Vikes took to the road and were handled by Chaminade, 38-20. This week looks like a laugher. Next: Highland (Palmdale) (1-1) win was a forfeit win.

9. (4) Rancho Cucamonga (2-1) After starting the game up 3-0 nothing seemed to go right for Rancho. By halftime the score was 32-3 and at the end of 3, the score was 46-3 and the rout was on. Rancho ended up scoring two late TD's to make the final score 46-17. Next: Murrieta Valley (1-1)

Rancho Cucamonga 42 Norco 41

in a tale of 2 games rancho Cucamonga rallied for the 42 - 41 over Norco.
rancho was up 14-0 after a blocked fg was ran back for a td.
rancho led at the half 24-14.
the first 18 minutes of the second was all Norco.
Norco realed off 27 straight points to take a commanding 41-24 lead with about 6 minutes left.
then that funny thing called mo showed up.
rancho scored the go ahead td with under a 1:30 and forced Norco 3 and to seal the win.

Peninsula at Culver City for week 2

Not much data on Peninsula. They boast an 80 man varsity roster but North Torrance, a good team, put up 34 points on them before they responded with a 19 point 4th quarter rally, probably against some second stringers. Having said that, they should be able to do better this week as Culver City was exposed against West Torrance as one dimensional offensively. An effective run game but no passing ability to speak of. I expect Peninsula will put 9 guys in the box and try to force Culver to go to the air. I expect the Centaurs to still try and run. If they can't they might be dead and in jeopardy of being overtaken by other Ocean league teams in the battle for third place. Probably the highest they can hope for. Peninsula's inability to hang with North does not bode well for them in the Bay League as Redondo was able to play a close game against North. This is likely to be my Friday night game.

HFTV '13-14 Review Heats Up With All-Americans Mudiay, Oubre, & Vaughn

Just before Christmas 2013 Hoops Factory TV was privileged enough to cover two days of Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas. As the desert weather chilled, the temperatures inside the Las Vegas gyms were turned up to scorching levels. Held over four days at a number of venues across the Las Vegas Valley, the Tarkanian Classic was an epic event that featured the Crème de la Crème of high school basketball talent. The Tournament was broken into two divisions, gold and platinum, and included a number of highly ranked prep schools squaring off against each other in non-tournament showcase games. Platinum teams included in the episode included Mater Dei, Bishop Gorman, Bishop O'Dowd, Redondo Union, and Lone Peak. Prep division teams included Prime Prep, Findlay Prep, La Lumerie, Our Savior, and Montrose Christian. The player competing in the event included four eventual McDonalds All-American's in Stanley Johnson, Kelly Oubre, Rashad Vaughn, and Emmanuel Mudiay. Watch as we catch up with some of the tournaments best including 2015 top prospects, Ivan Rabb, from Bishop O'Dowd, Derryck Thornton, from Findlay Prep, and Cheick Diallo, from Our Savior. Friday's games at the Orleans Arena were televised nationally and attracted a host of basketball lifers; Van Coleman, who was announcing the games for CBS Sports, dropped wisdom seldom heard in this day in age and ESPN's Fran Fraschilla, graced the factory with his presence. Also, included are Ricky Moore, member of the 1999 UCONN National Championship Team, Gerry Frietas of Hoop Review, and Karen Taylor, Jackson State Hall of Famer and mother of Stanley Johnson rounded out the day.
The following day we spoke with a variable who's who of tournament invitee's including a trio of All American's Emmanuel Mudiay, Kelly Oubre, and Rashad Vaughn. We also spoke with 2015 standout Allonzo Trier who put on a show at the Tark. Craig Victor, Shawn Williams, Sam Logwood, and Joseph Toye rounded out the player interviews on day 2. Finally before we departed the Silver State, we cool out with former Sonic & Clipper Michael Cage and Derryck Thornton Sr to get parents perspective on dealing with changing situations in an ever evolving world.
Extra special thanks to Dinos Trigonis

Coverage to continue of the Californiapreps.com Frosh/Soph Showcase

We're finishing up the last of the game reports and have edited a ton of photos. Watch for content to go up all week and beyond on the front page.

If you're not yet a subscriber, don't miss out! Click on the link below.

After the last of the 9 game reports, we'll have player ratings of all who participated in the showcase. There were some surprises at and near the top of the rankings.

We'll also pick overall all-star teams of the top players in the entire showcase and name Players of the Game for each team in every game.

It was a tough call to pick a Most Outstanding Player but we think we've got the right pick.

We'll close out the coverage online with a few photo galleries of players on all the teams.

The Cavaliers are loaded once again.

West Valley Division Rankings Week 1

Yes, there were a few surprises and disappointments as the 2014 season kicked off.
I think this is going to be a tough division to rank weekly with the competitiveness of non league contests, let alone league.
you win you move up you lose you move down.

1 (2). Vista Murrieta - bye -opens @ Downey (1-0) Still cant believe that its been such a quiet (haven't heard much) summer in SWR.

2. (3) Upland (1-0) Beat lowly Knight 71 - 0 was up 57-0 at the half. As the season goes on uplands schedule gets a little tougher. This week not much though Next: Redondo (0-1)

3. (5) Chaparral (1-0) Lit up Victor Valley 64-0. goes on the road to face a team who is likely upset after being upset.Tesoro (0-1)

4.(6) Valencia - bye Hosts Palmdale (1-0)

5. (nr) Chino Hills (1-0) after being down 35 - 14 to Hart the Huskies roared back for a 63 - 48 victory over highly regarded Hart. Is CH for real? we'll see this week. Next: J Serra (1-0)

6. (1) Mission Viejo (0-1) What happened? MV lost to Liberty from Bakersfield 18-7. Are the diablos overrated? doesn't get easier for MV as they travel to Oceanside (1-0)

7. (8) Rancho Cucamonga (1-0) RC opened the season with a 17-0 victory over Trabuco Hills. The defense looked great, but that offense needs to catch up and quick. Next: Norco (0-0)

8. (nr) El Toro (1-0) ET came up with a big win over an always good La Habra team, 51-35. The Chargers should continue their winning ways. Next: Capo Valley (1-0)

9. (9)Great Oak (1-0) with a monster 4th quarter GO pulls out a 38 -21 win over Carlsbad. This week the Pack host King (0-0)

10. (4) Hart - When the wheels fall off...Hart was up 35-14 over Chino Hills and looked to be coasting. Then it got ugly with CH outscoring Hart 49-13. I don't know, but Hart's in trouble this week. Next: Chaminade (1-0)

others:

Edison (2-0) Went from a twinkie to a ding dong. Edison beat CC* 51-6. after this week it gets real. Next LA Garfield (0-1)
Los Al - opens the season this week vs Paramount (1-0)
Fountain Valley (1-0) won on the road in Florida
Newport Harbor - opens with LA Hamilton (0-1)

West Valley Top 10

No longer the Inland division D2 has a new look and feel to it. gone is the evil empire, CC and the big 8 and the Sierra league. In comes the Foothill, Sunset, and the SCL.
The baseline is arguably the toughest public school league.
The new evil empire is Johnson and his MV diablos. Hart has plenty of talent and renews its rivalry w MV. Upland looks great on paper. They have one of the best players in the division in helinski and a big solid o line in front of him. The sunset moves up from D6 which it never belonged in the first place.

1. Mission Viejo - always ready and always with talent. hosts Liberty (Bakersfield)

2. Vista Murrieta - been real quiet in SW riverside this summer. VM is well coached and will compete for a title. opens the season next week @ Downey.

3. Upland - Talent abounds, have they attained chemistry? this team could make a big time for a title if it falls into place. opens the season with a sweet tooth. Knight (palmdale)

4. Hart - Are they the best team? White to Irwin for one more year. Welcome back to D2 guys. could this top 4 be the semifinalists? opens @ chino hills - this should be a great great game.

5. Chaparral - returns 13 starters and has one of the best o lines in the division. has Victor Valley to tune for next weeks show down w Tesoro.

6. Valencia - won their league last year then lost to league rival hart in the finals. back is stud saety jay jay Wilson - opens next week with a solid opponent - palmdale

7. Tesoro - also returns 13 starts from a playoff team a year ago. weeks 2 and 3 will tells us more. opens at la Mirada

8. Rancho Cucamonga - Rancho has to replace its entire secondary and their best DL graduated. The offense returns 4 potential D1 WR its 2 best RBs and its QB. That defense isn't the biggest, but its fast. opens at Trabuco Hills.

9. Great Oak - hard not to rank a team that returns 17 players at all its key positions. no longer does the third place from swl have to play a big 8 team in the first round. so lets see how this plays out. opens with Carlsbad.

10. Etiwanda - We think that Rohr has somewhat tamed the beast which are the Eagles. If that's the case, with all that talent, it could be a banner year for E hi. they do pose matchups problems for most teams. Although they might lose Keon Stephans for the first 5 games, they'll be fine. opens with Summit.

others:
Edison - plays CC*
Los Al - Paramount 9/5
Chino Hills - Hart
Huntington Beach

Rancho cucamonga 17 Trabuco Hills 0

game was streamed live on prep zone.

Wasn't pretty but it s a W.
had a td called back, block in the back
fumbled going in for a score.
too many penalties.
WR came up with big catches, plays
that defense...goal line stands
a few nice stops on third and short, forcing TH to punt.
defense is fast but not big, needs help from the offense
offense needs to find its running game
lost top 2 centers early in 1st quarter, back ups did pretty dang good job, considering.
overall grade B -
