Tonight's scheduled Central Coast Section Football Open Division Consolation Championship game
between Junipero Serra and Milpitas High Schools has been cancelled. The game
had been scheduled at Milpitas at 7 pm. This game will not be rescheduled.

I followed up with the CCS office to find out why there would be no game and received this response:

Junipero Serra High School has chosen to not play this game and, therefore has
forfeited the contest to Milpitas. Because of this forfeit, Milpitas has been
declared the CCS Open Division Consolation Champion.

CCS does a consolation bracket for some odd reason, Therefore a team could play 11+ games even if they lose in the first round of the playoffs.

I went to the Valley Christian game with a few Oregon coaches Thursday and they were even amazed this was the previous week's semifinal losers playing for 3rd place.

The game itself is dumb.

Consolation champion?

Give me a break.

They should just call it what it is....... "The 3rd Place, Everyone Gets a Trophy Award".

Not a bad idea truthfully.
I can see where Upland could make this an annual event.

Serra - San Mateo received a two year playoff ban for not playing this game. They also will have two very good teams the next two years - among the sections best and be out of bowl consideration.
